Shop Smart

Last week’s meeting we talked about shopping SMART at the grocery store.

There are a TON of healthy options at the store but probably just as many unhealthy ones. A couple of the best tricks I know are to stick to the perimeter of the store as much as possible which is where all you healthier foods are; produce, meats, dairy, etc.

In the meeting we talked about some awesome tips:

Plan Ahead

Divide your list into categories

Eat before you go—>my fav tip!!!

Shop smart when you buy in bulk

Shop less

Be aware

Shop wiselly-Pay it forward

We are the ones in control of managing our environment!! For some people shopping right after your WW meeting is the best cause you are motivated.

This past week I have really been thinking about getting my kitchen back in order again as part of managing my environment aka clear out the junk!….not only for me and to motivate me to make better choices again but I have also been thinking a lot about my kids and the example I am setting for them in making healthy choices now in their young lives. I don’t want them to have to learn things the hard way as I have. I want them to choose fruit over cookies (most of the time! I still love cookies! 😉 ) and I want them to learn now to see and feel the difference they feel when they eat heatlhy foods vs. junk. My 9th grade daughter is already experiencing that and it has just motivated me even more to create an environment to have the convienence foods in our house be heatlhy ones.

I started last night by ‘prepping’ all the foods I had in my fridge so that they are easy to grab. I have found when doing this before that I am more prone to using it before it goes bad as well.

What are some ways you manage your environment??

About Carman

36 year old military wife of 18 years and stay at home mom to 4 incredible kids (3 girls ages 17, 11, 11 and our son is 6). After my 4th, and final baby, I decided I wanted to be more active, healthier, happier, and to be an example to my kids. I joined Weight Watchers and started using the Points Plus program to learn portion control, moderation, and develop healthier habits. I also used the dietSNAPS app to track my meals and it was such a life changer for me to literally *see* what I was putting in my body! Cyndi, Lexy and I created this blog to be accountability partners and that has been a huge key to this journey! I love to cook and I love converting my favorite recipes into a healthier version for my family to enjoy! I love the after effects of exercising :) I love challenging myself to fitness goals to change things up and in doing so I have run numerous 5K/10K's, several half marathons, one full 26.2 marathon, and a Tough Mudder. I love circuit training, weight training, and running sprints. My goal is to inspire others to take their health seriously, and to show how small changes can lead to big results.
