Claretta – Week 33

5K or Bust!!

O..M..Gosh!!!  I did it!!  Actually completed my first fun run!!  One of my goals has been to be in a running event with my daughter.  We had so much fun at the San Jacinto Texas Independence Day event.

It started bright and early at 7:30 and of course, all the runners were in the front of the pack.  I fully expected that I’d mostly walk, but I had Lexy and our good friend, Ciro, with me and I asked them to push my limits.  I did mostly walk, which held them back, but I was able to get in some good jogging moments too.  There were tons of people ahead of me and a goodly number of folks behind me.  As we all spread out over the course, there was this one man who started in front of me that had some type of limp.  He was walking with another younger man and woman.  I just made up my mind that I was not going to let that limping man beat me! We had a passing battle back and forth for the 3. whatever miles and jokes going back and forth between us.  It was so much fun!  I couldn’t have asked for better spring-type weather and we were on hollowed grounds, the exact location of where Texas won it’s independence from Mexico.  Look here for the professional pictures that were taken:

There was quite a spread in ending times…the overall winner came in at 19:57 minutes and I finished 56:13, my personal best (from my training anyway!!) and I did beat that man!  I think I’m hooked and am ready to keep working hard so that I can do this again.  Next time, I hope to be able to jog the whole event. I’ve already got the 2013 event blocked in my calendar and another one for April… And just so everyone knows, I DID NOT EAT ANY DONUTS!!!

About Lexy

40 years old, "stay at home mom" to 2 boys (ages 16 and 14), wife to a chiropractic kinesiologist! I love blogging and learning new ideas. I follow the Weight Watchers Points Plus program and enjoy working out. I have run 2 full 26.2 mile marathons and 3 half marathons... and many 10k and 5k's. I love taking BodyPump classes and lifting weights. Working out has always been fun for me, but I struggle with eating healthy. Blogging has introduced me to a world of healthy eaters... When I first started WW... I just wanted someone to tell me what to eat! I didn't like cooking and I am not the kind of person that can just throw things together. There are tons of ideas out there and I love finding new and fun ones that I feel like I am capable of making myself!
