Claretta – Week 40

45 Years!!!

1967 was a great year.  It’s the year I graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in Houston.  Last week, I met up with several of my “old” friends and classmates for a reunion at The Mayan Ranch in Bandera, Texas. This was our second gathering since our Senior trip 45 years ago. Because it’s a working ranch, there’s lots of cowboy-type things to do, like horseback riding.  I wasn’t able to ride last year because I couldn’t get my big, fat bottom up on the horse.  That was embarrassing to say the least and I made myself a goal to be able to ride this year.

40-pounds lighter, it still wasn’t real easy, and I needed the help of a couple of the wranglers.  My friends had a great time taking pictures of my mounting events and of course, the wranglers, Tommy and Jeremy, had a great laugh too.  I was a good sport, but I was laughing so hard I was afraid I’d wet my pants!

Anyway – goal accomplished!

The Mayan is owned by the Hicks family and all of the 12 children work there, including some of the spouses and grandchildren.  I have to tell you that they are wonderful cooks.  We enjoyed early morning cowboy breakfasts out on the range, bbq’s under the shade trees, Mexican food at the pavillion…and free flowing adult drinks.  I enjoyed the food – A LOT!!  6 pounds worth!!  (I was on vacation, right??)  I’ve already lost 3.

So, that’s what we did, eat and talk, and rest and hang out.  I’m already counting the days when we can meet up again.  Next goal:  put on my bathing suit and go swimming in that beautiful pool!!  (or the beach, whichever comes first!)
