Lite Your Fire Monday’s :)

Today’s Success Story is awesome! This is Meagan, one of our sisters in law! She is our husband’s youngest sister. We have seen her transform over the years through self discipline and hard work. We wanted to share her story!

First Name/Age:  Meagan, 26

Tell us a little about yourself so we can get to know you better.
I am a mother of two wonderful girls. I have been married to my highschool sweetheart for 7 yrs this coming April. I originally grew up in a small town of Mont Belvieu Tx, and I never thought I would be raising my children there, but my husband and I currently live in Mont Belvieu and love it! It has grown a lot in the past 10 yrs since I’ve graduated.

I don’t work outside of my home… just have the pleasure of being a mother to my daughters. They keep me busy for sure! I eventually would love to have a job, but that will have to stay on the back burner until my youngest starts school in the next few years.
I am a very outgoing people person. I enjoy going out with friends, shopping, movies, and just the good old “hangin around”. I love to talk, and I am also a great listener.

Have you struggled with weight/body image issues throughout your life?

I can’t really say that I have ever struggled with having weight issues. I have had a steady, healthy weight all my life, but just seemed to gain a lot when I was pregnant w/ my kids.

Was there a significant event that triggered your changes?

I gained a good 45 lbs with my first pregnancy and delivered a healthy 11lb 3oz toddler…haha! Both me and baby were very healthy, she was just a big baby, so I was thankful! I didn’t have a work out schedule or healthy eating habit after delivering her so I basically kept most of that weight on for the next few years. I then got pregnant with my second daughter and when I realized I was pregnant, I told myself that I wasn’t going to gain that 45lbs back. So my husband helped me work on a healthy eating habit, and thankfully it worked my entire pregnancy. I only gained 25lbs with her! I was a good 180lbs when I delivered my second child, and after leaving the hospital I remember getting home and looking in the mirror and I knew that I had just delivered a baby, but something triggered in my brain and I told myself that I WILL lose this weight.
Two weeks after having my C-Section, I was on the treadmill starting my 15 minute a day walks. I gradually worked into walking on an incline and increasing my time. Before I knew it, I was running 3 miles a day! I couldn’t beleive it. I am NOT a runner so I was thrilled that I had made it that far! 8 months passed and I had lost 45lbs!!! And I have been able to keep the weight off since!

Did you have someone that inspired you to make changes?

My husband has been a great strength to me in my getting in shape and eating healthy. It is a desire of his as well to be healthy and have a fit body, so that definitely helps me keep that drive to do so.

Did you incorporate a certain diet? Restrict calories? Or follow any certain plan?

I can’t say that I have a certain diet, but all I do is eat healthy, drink lots of water and intake plenty of protein. I, on occasion have a cheat day or cheat meal. As does my husband. Having those cheat days helps us actually because we would go insaine without them. We both LOVE food so we aren’t actually cutting out the “bad” stuff, just watching our intake of it.

Do you exercise? If so, what type of exercise do you enjoy? Did you work out with family or friends?

I exercise at the most 6 days a week. On a normal day for me I do my cardio in the mornings, which consist of a 30min stairmaster workout, following a 15min incline walk just to keep the blood flowin. Then in the evenings I do and do my lifting with my husband. Gotta keep that muscle definition. :)

When did people first notice the changes?

People noticed my weight loss during the first few months after I started working out after having my second baby. Everyone started telling me that they could notice my face getting smaller. I was excited to get those compliments and that’s what kept me going. To this day I get approached about my weight loss and fitness on a daily basis.

Did it take a while for your mind to adjust to the new you?

I do notice a huge difference in my body as far as muscle goes. I’ve never had as much definition as I do now. I never thought I would look the way that I do now. I am loving the “new me” as oppose to what I use to look like. It didn’t take a long time at all for me to adjust to looking like I do now. I just loved every second of working on improving myself. I have looked at pictures of myself in the past and my mouth just dropped; I couldn’t believe that that was me. So, I guess I was a little surprised to actually see for myself how far I have come.

Do you feel like your confidence has improved?

My confidence level has sky rocketed! After having two children I feel like I look better than ever! All I want to do is continue what I’m doing and maybe hope that I could lose a few more lbs and just continue to be healthy and who knows, maybe compete in a fitness competition one day…I said Maybe…

How did your family react? Were they supportive?

My family has been super supportive! I come from a family who also loves to be healthy and stay fit, so of course they were supportive and helped me a lot along the way.

What do you eat on an average day? What are some of your favorite foods that keep you on track?

On an average day, in the mornings I have a protein drink for my breakfast, for lunch I eat some white rice with a side of grilled chicken and I try not to snack in the middle of the day, but if I do it’s either a few chips or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. For dinners I try to have a grilled chicken salad, but that’s not always the case. I’ve never been on an actually “eating ONLY certain things kinda diet”. I just make sure that whatever I am intaking is healthy. I do, however stress drinking water. I do drink soda on occasion, but I limit that to maybe a few sodas a week.
Some of my favorite things to eat are fruit salads, grilled chicken salads and chips and salsa. I love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Veggies are a must for me. I love mixed veggies w/ my meals for lunch and dinner. I am a meat eater, so I do love steak, but I don’t eat that very often…I take advantage of that when I do though.

What are you biggest tips for people that are trying to maintain their weight loss?

My biggest tip that I can give to anyone who is interested in staying fit and healthy is to cut out fast food, and try to make your own meals at home. That has been one of the biggest things for me. I’m not going to say that you can never have fast good again, but just cut in down to a minimum of maybe a few times a month. I always notice a change in how my body feels when I eat that junk. For me, maintaining my weight has just consisted of me eating the things that I know will do my body good and give me energy. Working out everyday has helped me tremendously! Cardio has been my miracle when it comes to losing my fat! And It’s also a great way to start my day.

Is there anything else you want to tell us?

If my story inspires only 1 person out there, I will have thought this totally worth it! I want to thank my family for the love, support and encouragement they have given me throughout my weight loss process and I am looking forward to continuing this lifestyle so that I can, hopefully inspire my own children to live this way as well!

About Lexy

40 years old, "stay at home mom" to 2 boys (ages 16 and 14), wife to a chiropractic kinesiologist! I love blogging and learning new ideas. I follow the Weight Watchers Points Plus program and enjoy working out. I have run 2 full 26.2 mile marathons and 3 half marathons... and many 10k and 5k's. I love taking BodyPump classes and lifting weights. Working out has always been fun for me, but I struggle with eating healthy. Blogging has introduced me to a world of healthy eaters... When I first started WW... I just wanted someone to tell me what to eat! I didn't like cooking and I am not the kind of person that can just throw things together. There are tons of ideas out there and I love finding new and fun ones that I feel like I am capable of making myself!
