Lite Your Fire Monday’s – Heather

Super excited to share Heather’s weight loss success story today! We have become “online friends” in the blogging world… Through her commenting on our blog, and me seeing her comment on other healthy living blogs that I read… we started communicating and keeping in touch! After receiving one of her “Motivation Of The Day” emails on Sunday, I knew I wanted to share her story! I was so happy when she agreed!!! Here ya go!

First Name/Age:
Heather, 33

Tell us a little about yourself so we can get to know you better.
I’ve been married for 6.5 years and have an almost 4 year old daughter.

Was there a significant event that triggered your changes?
When I tried on an outfit for a friend’s wedding in the summer of 2006, I realized I didn’t like what it felt like to have it on. I went to a Weight Watcher’s meeting a few days before the wedding.

Did you incorporate a certain diet? Restrict calories? Or follow any certain plan?
I joined WW June 30, 2006 and went to every meeting up until I got pregnant with my daughter, early October 2007 and returned the end of July 2008 and have been going ever since.

Do you exercise? If so, what type of exercise do you enjoy? Did you work out with family or friends?
I enjoy walking and using the elliptical machine. This past year I completed the Twin Cities Marathon 5K pushing my daughter in a stroller in 47:49 and did the Get Lucky 7K (4.4 miles) in Minneapolis in 1:02:47 on St Patrick’s Day.

Did it take a while for your mind to adjust to the new you?
Yes, kind of an adjustment knowing that I didn’t have to go to the end of the clothing rack for a bigger size…. in fact, just recently I got into a size 8 pair of jeans that didn’t fit a while back.

How did you measure your success throughout the process? How much weight did you lose and how long have you kept it off?
I measured my success along the way by my Weight Watcher’s meeting milestones: 16 week charm, 10% key chain, 5K charm, etc. To date (4/1/12) from my very first meeting on (6/30/06) I have lost 35.2lbs.  Getting pumped up for my goal charm and LifeTime key!

Which of your personal goals have you achieved?
Completing the 7K at about where my goal was, about a hour. I was nervous about it because I didn’t think I could do it but I did it and can’t wait to do it again to see if I can run it faster!

Do you feel like your confidence has improved?

What has changed the most about you?
Have more energy!

What did you find hardest about this process? How did you overcome it?
Every day it is a challenge, especially with a preschooler and a husband who sometimes won’t eat the same things as I eat. You just need to be proud of how far you have come and know that you don’t want to go back to where you were before!

How did your family react? Were they supportive?
They were and still are supportive, in fact I usually check to see what my family is having to eat if we are coming over for dinner so I can kind of plan my day around what we are having and know that I can tap into my Activity Points or Weekly Point Allowance if needed to make it through until my next weigh in or meeting.

What do you eat on an average day on program? What are some of your favorite foods that keep you on track?
It all depends on the day in what I eat. I have a lot of recipes from www.greenlitebites.com as well as www.skinnytaste.com and the lovely ladies here at www.firelitesfire.com that I use and incorporate into what I eat.  I would have to say that something I eat a lot of is overnight oatmeal.

It is 1 cup of greek yogurt, frozen berries, and ½ cup dry oatmeal…you put it together in the fridge the night before and eat it in the morning. The points for this meal depend on the serving size of your greek yogurt.

What are your biggest tips for people that are trying to maintain their weight loss?
Stick with it… the loss may be slow, but keep at it and get in all of your water each day (WW recommends six 8oz glasses and I usually get in more) and get in at least 30-45 minutes of activity in a day, even if it is just a slow walk….it all adds up!

Thank you so much Heather for sharing your experience with us!!! You are such an inspiration and I can’t wait to update your story when you reach LifeTime!!!  :)

About Lexy

40 years old, "stay at home mom" to 2 boys (ages 16 and 14), wife to a chiropractic kinesiologist! I love blogging and learning new ideas. I follow the Weight Watchers Points Plus program and enjoy working out. I have run 2 full 26.2 mile marathons and 3 half marathons... and many 10k and 5k's. I love taking BodyPump classes and lifting weights. Working out has always been fun for me, but I struggle with eating healthy. Blogging has introduced me to a world of healthy eaters... When I first started WW... I just wanted someone to tell me what to eat! I didn't like cooking and I am not the kind of person that can just throw things together. There are tons of ideas out there and I love finding new and fun ones that I feel like I am capable of making myself!
