First Name/Age: Windy / Age 56
Have you struggled with weight/body image issues throughout your life?
Yes, I have been heavy the majority of my life.
Was there a significant event that triggered your changes?
Yes, my brother battling diabetes.
Did you have someone that inspired you to make changes?
No. I just accepted a personal responsibility to improve my health.
Did you incorporate a certain diet? Restrict calories? Or follow any certain plan?
I followed a diabetic menu and lost 50 pounds. So far with Weight Watchers, I have lost another 22 pounds.
Did you exercise? If so, what type of exercise do you enjoy? Did you work out with family or friends?
I do exercise now and find it extremely rewarding mentally and physically. I usually walk 25 miles per week. I try to push myself to slow jog part of that distance. I also perform stretching exercises 3 days per week. Since I am older I am slower and prefer to exercise alone.
When did people first notice the changes?
After about the first 20 pounds were lost.
Did it take a while for your mind to adjust to the new you?
Yes. And I am still working on it.
How did you measure your success throughout the process?
Pounds lost, inches lost and smaller clothing sizes.
Do you feel like your confidence has improved?
I suppose. Since my main focus is health as opposed to beauty I now feel incredibly physically strong.
How did your family react? Were they supportive?
At first my husband would get mad when we went to Sonic and I declined to order anything. Things have now changed and he has become so supportive that he joined Weight Watchers himself and has lost a significant amount of weight. Other extended family members and friends help me to stay motivated.
What do you eat on an average day?
Three meals and two snacks. Through the course of one day I eat: 3 units of protein, 1-2 units of whole grains, 2 fruits, 3 milks, 3-4 units of veggies, 1 unit of nuts, and 1 conservative sweet snack. In addition to the food I make sure I take one multivitamin and drink a glass of water on odd hours (9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm etc)
Is there anything else you want to tell us?
Balancing my food through Weight Watchers has been a tremendous help to me. With these guidelines and adding exercise, I feel better than ever and wish this same feeling for everyone.
