Our 2012 New Years Resolutions

The definition of resolution from dictionary.com:

-a resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.

-the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.

-the mental state or quality of being resolved or resolute; firmness of purpose.

I found this great article on the mentality we should have about making resolutions:
“A resolution is to resolve to do something then go at it with all our energy, recognizing we are apprentices and not the master. Apprentices are expected to have set backs but as they continue trying eventually they master what they resolved to do. ”  Click HERE to read more great thoughts in this great article!!

We thought it would be fun to share with you some of our New Years Resolutions and goals for 2012!! 😉

Okay… I guess it’s that time of year for resolutions! We decided to jump on the bandwagon and post ours! During the Christmas vacation, I did spend some time thinking about what I wanted to work on. There is always so much room for improvement in so many areas of my life. I’m not sure how many of my goals are tangible… where I will actually know that I achieved them… never the less… here are my thoughts…

I would like to start having dinner at the kitchen table. Hopefully with a new recipe once a week or so…. Aim high? This one is very hard for us for some reason…. gonna take some work! This also goes along with my desire to teach my children to make healthier choices…

I would like to feel more sure of myself and have confidence. Contentment with my life as a whole.

I need to stop complaining.  :/

I would like to have date nights with my husband once a week. :)

Three new habits I would like to form are:  daily personal prayer, daily scripture study with my boys, and a weekly family home evening. I linked to different articles that help explain why this would bring so much peace, happiness and understanding to my life.

I would like to be a good example to my children, my family, my friends and others I am around.  I teach the 16 and 17 year old girls at church, and I want to do a good job at presenting the weekly lessons for them.

I would love to take more Bikram Yoga classes!

I want to attend FitBloggin and BlogHer and continue to enjoy our blog! I love sharing success stories of others who have achieved their goals!

I want to learn more about blogging, social media, and how that will all come together for my involvement with dietSNAPS.

I think I will need to ask Carman for a color coded binder to keep up with all of these…..    😉

I have been thinking a lot about new goals for this year. This is the first New Year that I have not had to say ‘I need to loose a ton of weight’ as my resolutions!! It is a new yet weird feeling for me but I am excited to keep building on the healthy lifestyle I have started and now focus more on growing stronger in the spiritual, emotional, and creative areas of my life and with my family.

*My #1 focus this year is to do the things that make myself and my little family happy FIRST – to create deeper relationships  and cherish these times I have with my kids and together as a family.

*Continue to track my food and WW points daily with dietSNAPS and continue to use this blog to keep me accountable.

*Continue to attend my weekly WW meetings—>the PointsPlus program WORKS and has changed my life!! We are living proof of that. 😉

*Drink my daily required water!!!!

*Attend the BlogHer Conference this year in one of my fav places -NYC 😉 – and other blog conferences like FitBloggin so we can go new places with our blog and meet other awesome bloggers that we follow.

*Run a half marathon and possibly a marathon this year.

*Read, study, and ponder the scriptures daily and  say my personal prayers morning and night.

*Complete the Book of Mormon as a family.

*Consistent weekly Monday night Family Home Evenings.

*Complete my Personal Progress  goal—->so that I can become a more confident and content ME. 😉

*Look for ways to serve and have charity towards others daily.

*Continue to do dates and have quality time with my sweetheart each week.

*Make sure to have more one on one time with each of my kids weekly/monthly.

*Become better at Time Management!!! Any tips?? 😉

*Spend Less – Save More! Follow my budget each month and get *gazelle intense* with Dave Ramsey’s Babysteps.

*Create a better organized and clutter free home habit FlyLady style so I don’t live in CHAOS {Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome} every time I turn around.

*Plan better weekly menus and try more healthy recipes.

*Do crossword puzzles regularly again.

*Read one good book a month.

*Work on and finish more craft projects—>especially some of the awesome ideas I have found on Pinterest. 😉

*Beautify my home more by completing my list of home projects, repainting, gardening, etc.

*And lastly – to ENJOY LIFE – live without fear, without regrets, stop and smell the roses, laugh more, love more, and just be HAPPY – and hopefully in return, those around me will be inspired to be happy.  😉

Goals for 2012:  HAVE A BABY… oh right that’s kind of a given.  So I try not to have too many goals because I feel like if I have too many expectations of myself, I’m doomed to fail.  On the other hand, I don’t think it’s possible to just have one goal to focus on when you’re a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, etc, because inevitably there will be some goals to accomplish with each relationship.  So in the grand scheme of things, here are my goals for 2012…

*I’m going to…reach my WW goal this year…obviously this goal will not really be able to be started until after the baby comes, but I’m proud of myself for keeping up with my point tracking while pregnant because it’s now a habit.

*I’m going to…compete in a fitness event whether it be a half-marathon, triathlon sprint, cross fit certification, etc.  My first choice would be the tri, but with the fact that my husband will literally be gone all summer, I’m going to leave this goal open ended so I have options.

*I’m going to…finish my prerequisites for nursing school and apply in the fall.

*I’m going to…have a positive attitude and focus less on myself and more on others.  I love this quote from President Thomas S. Monson (prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) “We can’t direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.  For maximum happiness, peace, and contentment, may we choose a positive attitude.”

About Carman

36 year old military wife of 18 years and stay at home mom to 4 incredible kids (3 girls ages 17, 11, 11 and our son is 6). After my 4th, and final baby, I decided I wanted to be more active, healthier, happier, and to be an example to my kids. I joined Weight Watchers and started using the Points Plus program to learn portion control, moderation, and develop healthier habits. I also used the dietSNAPS app to track my meals and it was such a life changer for me to literally *see* what I was putting in my body! Cyndi, Lexy and I created this blog to be accountability partners and that has been a huge key to this journey! I love to cook and I love converting my favorite recipes into a healthier version for my family to enjoy! I love the after effects of exercising :) I love challenging myself to fitness goals to change things up and in doing so I have run numerous 5K/10K's, several half marathons, one full 26.2 marathon, and a Tough Mudder. I love circuit training, weight training, and running sprints. My goal is to inspire others to take their health seriously, and to show how small changes can lead to big results.
