Sweet & Spicy Meatballs Recipe

I’ve been in a rut and unmotivated for a while with trying to figure out new recipes to try and add to my monthly menu. Not sure what my problem has been but its my niche for this blog so I’m trying to get with it!!! {the perfectionist in me always gets in the way – I’m sure that’s a lot of it! ;)}  Thankfully, with the holidays here it definitely gets me more in the mood to cook, bake, and look for recipes that are a healthier alternative and taste awesome!

Today I came across Gina’s Skinny Italian Turkey Meatballs and have been wanting to make some meatballs for a while.  I made these meatballs according to her recipe in the link above – I doubled it because I had a 3 lb package of ground turkey and I used dried Italian seasoning since I didn’t have any fresh parsley.

Since I’ve actually been craving sweet & spicy meatballs that I usually serve as an appetizer during the holidays or over rice as a meal – I put a little twist on it and I made my own sweet & spicy sauce instead of making it an Italian dish and using the marinara in the recipe this time.

Ideally I would normally throw the cooked meatballs in the crockpot and then dump each of these jars in and let it cook and simmer for 4 hours. Since I didn’t plan ahead I had to improvise. So I combined these two jars in a saucepan and then just served it over the top. It tasted yummy and I liked it – but I think I like it better the crockpot way after the meatballs are more ‘marinated’ in the sauce.

You can use any frozen mixed veggies you like.

Serve it over rice or noodles.

Add water chestnuts.

The options are endless. 😉

    I can’t wait to try this spin on Gina’s meatballs. I’ve tried her recipe before, but your version offers the kick I have been craving. My kind of comfort food!
