September 11th Memories

I came across this Fox News Flashback-on what happened that day 10 years ago. I sat with tears streaming as I watched it this morning reflecting on where I was, what I was doing, and how I felt as it was happening then. Those emotions came flooding back.  I also reflected on all that has happened in our family since that day.

We were stationed at Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina at the time. My 4 year only daughter at the time and I had been in TX at my best friends wedding that was on Sept 8th. We were flying back home on Sunday, Sept 9th when my American flight leaving Houston got delayed due to weather causing me to barely miss my connecting flight in Dallas. I was so mad cause it was the last flight out for the night. Luckily, I have an aunt who lives in Dallas and she excitedly came to pick us up so we could stay the night with her. We were back at the airport  Monday morning bright and early only to have more problems ie; gate changes, having to run to a whole nother terminal, etc.We finally got home that evening after a long day of traveling with my sweet 4 year old. On Tuesday, Sept 11th, I dropped her off at school on base and came home to chill on the couch and recover from our crazy trip. I watched The Today Show every morning then and had it on when the breaking news came across. I sat up and watched in disbelief and horror as the events unfolded that morning. I called my husband who was at work and he said they were watching it and were about to go into a briefing. All I remember him saying before getting off the phone was ‘We are going to war.’ My heart dropped as I knew this was a tragic event that would change our country and our lives as we knew it. And it has. Shortly after that, my husband was deployed for the first time to the war in Afghanistan. He has been deployed 3 more times in fighting this war on terrorism. He has served in Afghanistan twice and Iraq twice.

I am so grateful for strong and willing men like my husband who serve so selflessly and valiantly to protect our country……other brave men I am proud of are my brother in law-Keller, cousin Neal, Uncle Dave, and all of our many awesome friends who are like dear family to us.

Thank you ALL for the service you do for us and our country.

I am so grateful to live in the land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE!!!

Cyndi’s sister remembers 9/11

On 9/11/01 I had one sister in NYC and one sister in Washington DC.  My sister that was in NYC shared her experience and I’d like to share it with you.

My heart goes out to all those that lost a family member or friend on that fateful day and to the NYPD and NYFD who lost so many.  I’m grateful for the men and women who serve our country, domestic and foreign, to protect and defend our liberty.  Land of the free and home of the brave!
