Girls Weekend in Vegas!

I didn’t really preface our Girls Weekend very well in my last post, so here’s the dealio.  Every year a group of us that all met freshman year in the dorms at BYU try to have a girls weekend getaway.  The girls are:

Me (obviously)

Sarah (we met in 7th grade and were roommates)

Heidi (was on our floor in the dorms…and then Sarah and my roommate for the next 2 years)

Heather (Heidi’s roomate in the dorms)

Rebecca (we called her Pocahontas, she lived on our floor freshman year)

Sarita (also on our floor freshman year…I get to see sarita a lot cause she lives in Frisco)

We look like babies!!!  pics on the top left to right (Heidi, Sarah, Me) (Me, Sarita, Heidi’s head behind Sarita, Cameron-Sarah’s husband-next to Heidi, Rebecca’s high school boyfriend-next to Sarita, and Rebecca);

We started this tradition back in 2008 after we no longer all lived close to each other.  Our first trip was HERE to Vegas.  We stayed at the JW Marriott outside of the city and spent the weekend at the pool, spa, and eating.  In 2009 the girls all came to Austin, TX for some BBQ, live music, and crazy weather.  In 2010 we met up at my sister’s house in Park City, Sarah was expecting so we celebrated a baby shower with her and of course had some much needed spa time.  And now we’re back in Vegas at the Trump Hotel!

Woke up bright and early apparently still on mountain time!  Heidi and Rebecca got ready to go the gym.  I brought all of my workout clothes but no shoes!  Awesome…luckily Heather, who lives just outside of Vegas, was coming later in the day and letting me borrow a pair of her shoes.  I took advantage of the time to go get my snowy car washed and grab some bagels and water to keep in the room.  While getting ready I decided to just watch some TV…through the mirror of the bathroom!!

Such a beautiful day in Vegas, I had to snap a pic while I was out and about.

Breakfast: bagel w/cc and oj

After breakfast we headed over to the mall that was literally across the street from our hotel (hehehe, I may or may not have planned that).  First stop, the make-up counter at Nordstrom.  Heidi suggested we have our make-up done.  I was a little skeptical cause I’m pretty picky about letting random people do my make-up.  So Heidi went to the MAC counter and Rebecca headed over to Bobbi Brown.  Rebecca’s make-up girl was awesome.  She showed Rebecca an everyday look she could easily replicate and then darkened it up for a sexy sultry look.  I had to be next!  Here are some before, during, and after pics.

Then we headed over to Neiman Marcus for some lunch at the cafe and some of their famous popovers.  So delicious!

Lunch: chicken salad, shared sweet potato fries, and popovers

We shopped until we dropped…literally we went back to the hotel and crashed for some mini naps.  At around 4 Heather was able to finally join us.  We spent some time talking and catching up before dinner and then headed out to a Thai restaurant suggested by Heidi called Lotus of Siam.

We were thinking of all just getting our own meals, but we didn’t want to get 4 things of Pad Thai so we decided to order 4 different dishes and share.  It was a great idea cause they were all delicious and it was fun to try new things.  We choose chicken satay, green curry chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and pad thai.

After dinner we headed to a movie theater to see This Means War.  It was hilarious walking into a movie theater on a Friday night and being the only ones there.  Apparently, no one goes to movies in Vegas unless you’re a bunch of Mormon chicks (especially with a 10-month prego chick).  Snacked on some Starburst jelly beans in the movie…who bought those?…oh wait it was me!  On the way back to the hotel we blasted our music and rolled down the windows to have a mini dance party in the car without having to go to a club.

Woke up early again, but it was good cause we needed to get up and go workout before our spa treatments.

Pre-workout: PB and banana

Heidi wanted to do my workout with me so we started out with a 5 min warm-up on the treadmill.  Our workout was as follows: pyramid squat with a push press (starting at 10 working way down to 1 then back up to 10 again), 7’s for bicep curls 7 half way up 7 half way down 7 full curls 7 sets, superset of alternating lunges 10 each side then 10 sumo squats holding dumbbells then 10 straight leg deadlifts, ended with Heidi doing a plank with 3 sets of 10 alternating dumbbell rows while I held plank on the bosu ball.  We were officially smoked and ready for some spa time!  Heidi, Heather, and I got facials.  Rebecca had to run 12 miles in preparation for a half marathon she’s running in a couple weeks.

Breakfast: bagel w/cc and peanut butter (weird I know, but I needed some protein!)

Heidi and Heather met up with Rebecca at the pool after their facials and I headed back to the room to finish getting ready and rest.  Heather was dying to go get her make-up done by the girl who did Rebecca’s and my make-up on Friday so we headed over to the mall again!!  Did some more shopping and Heather and I took a trip down memory lane with a Jamba Juice (we used to have one almost every day on campus during college).

I was super excited for our dinner plans.  We were going to Lawry’s, a prime rib restaurant that I grew up going to every Christmas Eve in Beverly Hills.  It was just as delicious as I remembered!

The restaurant is famous for hosting the teams of the Rose Bowl every year for what they call the Beef Bowl the night before the game.  We started out with some hot french bread and butter, then their famous spinning bowl salad (that’s the picture in the middle on the top above), and the main course consisted of prime rib, mashed potatoes, cream corn, and yorkshire pudding (which is a bread similar to a popover).  For dinner we shared a strawberry shortcake and a hot fudge sundae.

Did some more clubbing in the car on the way back to the hotel and then stayed up late talking and listening to music.  Our doorbell rang at 10pm and we thought it was someone telling us to turn our music down, but it was room service with a special treat ordered by my husband.  He won lots of points with that move!

It’s always sad when the fun has to end.  Heather had to take off early to get back to her kids so her husband could attend some meetings.

Another bagel breakfast!

Heidi and I forgot to get gifts for our kids so we headed back to the mall, except not the one across the street from our hotel cause it didn’t open until 11.  Instead we hopped on a shuttle that took us to the shops at Caesar’s Palace.  After walking the entire mall, we only found 1 store that had kids stuff in it.  Luckily for me they had a super hero cape because that is all Cole has been talking about for about a month.  Then it was back to the hotel to pack up and get on the road.  Goodbye Trump Hotel!

Stopped at Chipotle for lunch on our way out of town.

Rebecca tried to soak up some last minute warmth.

Spent the rest of the day in the car on the way home.  Snacked on an apple, a Twizzler pull-n-peel, and 3 peanut butter M&M’s.  I had a huge headache that I couldn’t get rid of so I wasn’t super hungry.  After dropping the girls off, I finally made it home at 8pm and Cole was waiting for me at the door (mostly because he wanted his treat).  They saved me some dinner which was so great cause I was now starving.

I love girls weekends!  They are a much needed break from everyday life.  It makes it especially nice when you have amazing friends.  Even after not seeing each other for a year, we seem to pick up right where we left off.  We are all so comfortable with each other, there’s never any drama, it’s just easy and fun.  I can’t wait until our next trip!!

Rise and Shout the Cougars were out…weekend recap

Busy weekend…

Friday started off with a wonderful hour of yoga.  It has been soooo long way to long since I’ve done yoga and I could tell.  I was so stiff and having troubles doing position that usually aren’t a problem.  My goal this next week is to wake up every day and do at least 10 minutes of yoga every morning.  Cole had school off due to a teacher training weekend so his cousins came up to grammy and papa’s house to play.  We went to the park, got ice cream, and watched Harry Potter.  At night we went out for dinner at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants up in Park City.  They have the best chips and delicious shrimp tacos.  Apparently everyone else in Park City had the same idea cause it was packed.  We had 5 adults and 5 kids trying to find a table in this tiny restaurant.  The kids were tired, it was hot, and it took forever to get our food then Cole was either dehydrated or just exhausted or a mixture of both, but almost barfed all over the place.  I had to cut in front of this little girl waiting for the bathroom so that he didn’t barf all over the restaurant.  So we went home and got him to bed, with a little 7up and some toast he was feeling much better.

Food for FRIDAY:

My sister brought the ingredients for us to try a Persian snack that friends of hers introduced her to.  It’s Persian bread with feta cheese, walnuts, and prunes.  I have to be honest, at first it didn’t sound so good, but it was actually delicious!

After the park, we took the kids to get an ice cream.

Dinner: shrimp tacos from El Chubasco

SATURDAY…spent most of the day at the BYU/Idaho State football game.  Tried to not go crazy on food today.  Started with a bowl of my favorite Nature’s Path flaxseed cereal.

Snack/Lunch: The fam decided to stop at Wendy’s before getting on the road to go to the game.  Luckily I brought an apple and a Balance Bar, cause I knew I wanted to save my calories for a treat at the game.

My phone did not work at all in the stadium so I didn’t get a pic of my treats…my favorite thing to get at BYU games is called a cougar tail, it’s basically a big A maple bar…I also needed some substance so I grabbed a chicken salad from Costa Vida (similar to Cafe Rio) tortilla, rice, chicken, lettuce, pico, dressing.  They were both soooo yummy!  And Cole had a great time at his first football game!

I’m not sure what my deal was, but I did not feel good at all on the way home.  I think it was a combination of nausea just from being in a car and having all that food in my stomach.  So I went straight to the treadmill when we got home.  Ran my intervals 45 min run 2min/walk 1.  Felt sooo much better after that!

Dinner: Chobani greek yogurt w/fruit

SUNDAY…I literally did nothing today, scratch that, I took my parents to the airport and then I did nothing.  Made some eggs w/turkey and toast for breakfast.  Cole wanted soup for lunch so we had some more of the Trader Joe’s butternut squash soup with  a muenster grilled cheese sandwich and some grapes.

We watched some movies and then took naps.  Snacked on some Twizzlers pull-n-peel, dang you Sherilynn, apple, and some tortilla chips.

Sherilynn was so nice and made dinner.  She made pasta w/fresh tomato and basil sauce and a delicious salad.  I’m being spoiled by people cooking for me!!

Been craving these since I got here.  So I decided to make them and get them out of my system.  Started with one, but by the time the night was over I’m pretty sure I had 4!

Had a moment of weakness, should have gone upstairs to made a healthy snack, instead I found whatever candy I could get my hands on and ate them.  Did not feel awesome after this binge!

Deja Vu….weekend recap

Seems like it was a long weekend…looking at Lexy and Carman’s posts make me long for some normalcy in my life.  I wish I had my own house, my own food, and cooked all my own meals so that I can get back to my old habits and food choices.  It’s harder here.  I have more people around me that affect food decisions, we have friends we haven’t seen forever that we are going out to dinner with a lot, and no one in my family is on or will ever go on WW, so I don’t have the support that I did in Texas.  Plus I’m pregnant so that adds a whole other set of stresses and things I can’t control.  I try to think back to the last time I lived with my parents which ironically was the last time I was pregnant and my husband was away with the beginning of his Army training.  The difference was I had a full-time job, no one but me to take care of, and my parents didn’t even really live here cause my dad worked out of state.  So it wasn’t my house, but it was because I was alone most of the time.  So now I have to figure how I can get a balance of what I had last time I lived here and what I had when we lived in Texas and make it work.

FRIDAY we finished up some last minute errands that Keller needed to get done before leaving.  We dropped Cole off at school and then went out to breakfast to a local’s favorite called the “No Worries Cafe”.

Breakfast: “The Hack Attack”- scrambled egg whites (my addition) with ham, spinach, onions, peppers, tomato’s, mushrooms, and mozzarella cheese on top of hash browns with a side of sourdough toast and oj

Headed to Salt Lake to do our errands and then met my parents to see the movie 50/50 (PS really good movie, vulgar conversations-but what do you expect it’s Seth Rogen- if you could take all that crap out it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in awhile).  We didn’t have time to have lunch so we stopped and grabbed a tuna sandwich from one of my favorite bakeries Kneaders, and snuck them into the movie.  Good thing there weren’t a lot of people in the theater because we didn’t even think of the smell of a TUNA sandwich…oh well, they were delicious!  Also had some of their parmesan chips which are like kettle chips except with parmesan cheese…oh and I might have had a cinnamon roll…AHHH I blame Keller.

After the movie we picked Cole up from school and came home and Keller and Cole had bike races down my parents driveway.  For dinner Keller picked a favorite restaurant of ours up here in PC called Maxwells.  They have delicious pizza, french fries, salads, and cookizzas (which is cooke dough baked in a mini pizza pan).

Keller and I shared a strawberry spinach salad

Everyone shared an order of fries

And a Hawaiian style pizza that had italian sausage instead of ham (this is their regular size pizza)

SATURDAY- no pics today, phone was dead

We met my sister’s family at Corner Bakery for breakfast so that they could see Keller before he left.

Breakfast: Farmer’s scramble w/egg whites and wheat toast

Took Keller to the airport, no crying involved, we’re used to this!  Headed to the mall to do some errands for my sister and mom.  Cole spotted a Chipotle and started going crazy asking for rice and beans so I got a chicken burrito bowl rice, beans, chicken, peppers, lettuce, side a guac and we shared.  Went back to my parents and everyone took a nap.  Cole was so tired from the long month and a half we’ve had he slept for 3.5 hours.  Watched a little of the BYU game, had some leftovers, watched a movie with Cole and then went back to bed. A pretty low key day.

Breakfast: gluten-free waffle w/1TB PB and a cup of oj  8

Went to church.  I don’t know what my deal is lately at church, but I get soooo hungry like an hour after I get there.  So I’ve learned to bring snacks.

Snack: 3

Snack: balance bar (no pic) 5

Home from church, grabbed a Chobani yogurt (3) before heading out to go on a hike with a friend.  The colors are getting so gorgeous here and the temp was perfect!

I don’t know what my deal was though, I fell twice on the trail coming down, the first one I caught myself on my bum, the second I wasn’t so lucky and had to catch myself with my hands and knees.  My pride was hurt more than anything, just a few scrapes and bruises.  Came home and took a bath.  I was starting to feel the effects of falling.

Lunch: wheat bread, turkey, muenster cheese broiled w/avocado and a peach and some Sun Chips, but Cole ate most of them 12

I thought that was going to be my dinner which is why it was so high in points, but I forgot we were going down to my sister’s house for chili.

Dinner: salad, fruit, and a small serving of turkey chili 5

Dessert: mom made this amazing apple crumble, had a small serving w/ice cream and then another 😉

Came home and went to bed at 9!  Hoping for a great week ahead with a little bit of detoxing!

so sick of being on the road…weekend

Why is it that even when you feel gross from things you have eaten, it doesn’t always stop you from continuing on to eat the crap.  I just want to get home and be able to cook my own meals.  I don’t know how people who have to travel all the time do it.  I’m feeling like all my strength is lost, kind of like what’s the point?  I’m pregnant, I’m not going to be losing weight, so it doesn’t matter!  But I’m wrong…I can change this.  I will change this.  I control what goes in my mouth.  I control my choices.

I think I’m going to follow Lexy by taking one day at a time this next week.  I’m going to have a plan, not only with food, but with my workouts.  This week I will show that it is possible to make healthy choices even when it’s not that easy! Ok venting over.

So yesterday we went into Nashville to check it out.
