Attempts to induce labor with workouts, loud noises, and spicy food…and my baby shower!

Thursday…

Gave up going to my buns and guns class to work out with my hubby.  He put me through a pyramid workout…superset#1 curls into overhead press and squat w/row using a band wrapped around a pole, superset #2 dumbbell squats (sitting onto a workout bench then getting up again, etc) and one-legged wall push-ups.

We didn’t have any eggs at home so we stopped at Einstein’s to grab breakfast.  I tried one of their new maple oatmeal bagels with cream cheese…didn’t like it, it was too sweet so I just ended up eating half of the bagel and drinking half of Keller’s protein shake.

Grammy offered to take Cole and his cousins for the afternoon so Keller and I met up with my dad to see This Means War (again for me).  On the way out of the house I grabbed some leftover chicken, healthy mac and cheese, and broccoli, threw it in a bowl with a spoonful of tzatziki.

I also ran out of my Mint Cookie Balance Bars so I wasn’t prepared in the theater and ended up having a snack of coke zero, a bag of skittles, and some of Keller’s trail mix.

The boys had taekwondo and then it was Cafe Rio thursday so we had dinner with Michelle and the kids.  I attempted to try and share a steak salad with Keller…we all know how that goes!

Friday…

Spin class in the morning.

So excited to have my usual breakfast!

Keller got a new gun for Christmas but since he was in Afghanistan, he didn’t actually get it until he got back here and we’ve been wanting to take it to the range to shoot it.  A little background on me and guns…I grew up in southern California.  The only thing I knew about guns was that there were a lot of them in Compton.  My dad had a rifle, but it wasn’t something he took out of lot and I never went shooting with him.  So I didn’t really grow up with guns around and really did not like them.  When we were first married I told Keller that I would never allow guns in my house especially when we had kids.  HA HA…almost 10 years later I have a husband in the military who owns 3 guns.  Keller and I finally started to understand each other when I compared his want for multiple guns to my want for multiple pairs of shoes.  It was a great break through!

Baby boy jumped a little when we walked into the range.  They don’t make belly protectors so I used the ear protectors 😉

I got quite a few stares walking onto the range, no one expects to see a 9-month-pregnant chick at a gun range!  And this is how we SoCal girls shoot…it’s called busting a cap.

Here’s Keller in his element teaching my mom how to shoot…I’ll be honest, freaked me out to see a gun in my mother’s hand…it was like wrong!

The gun range was right across from the hospital that I volunteer at and I know this is going to sound weird but we went to have lunch there after.  You have to understand, this hospital has THE best food!  The chef used to be the Executive Chef to Bill Gates.  Plus I had a ton of free meal tickets that I hadn’t used.

Lunch: had a green smoothie, a couple bites of a chocolate croissant, turkey burger with half the bun, and a few sweet potato and regular fries

Spent the rest of the day and night rearranging our room to move the crib in.  I figured since I’m 2 weeks out it might be a good idea to actually get prepared.  I’m not sure if it was my situation of not living in my own house, but I had absolutely no “nesting” feelings like most women do earlier in my pregnancy.  I’m super lucky my parents have a crib at their house and my sister let me borrow her bumper and sheet, otherwise I’m not sure where this kid would be sleeping!

Keller requested pizza for our dinner from our favorite Maxwell’s for dinner.  I also made a strawberry spinach salad.

Saturday…

Did not sleep very well last night.  I’m pretty sure I’m having Braxton Hicks contractions and they are getting more intense to the point that they woke me up in the middle of the night, multiple times.  Not awesome.

Breakfast: toast w/pb and jam, fruit, and oj

Today was my baby shower…it was so fun!  Heidi and Rebecca put it on for me.  The food was delicious and I received awesome gifts.  Heidi put together some collages of pics.  She is so awesome, these pics look like a professional photographer took them, but they are all Heidi taking them on her iPhone!

Lunch: egg and green chile puff w/black bean salsa, greek yogurt w/fruit and homemade granola, and cinnamon rolls

I was super exited about all my gifts.  I got some really cute outfits, Aden+Anias swaddling blankets, the cutest pairs of Sperry and Vans shoes (for later of course), a cute little toy from Cole to hang from the handle of the carseat, and a BOB jogging stroller which I can’t wait to use!

I don’t know why anyone would ever give this to me…

While we were at the shower, Keller took Cole tubing.  If you don’t know what tubing is, it’s when you take an inner tube sledding down a big snowy hill.  He had a blast!

When they got home Cole and I both crashed for naps.  After naps, we went to see the new movie the Lorax, it was super cute!  Forgot to grab a snack on the way out, so I ended up eating a few handfuls of popcorn and some Starburst jelly beans (please Easter come soon so stores will no longer carry these frickin delicious candies!).  After the movie we grabbed some dinner at an Asian restaurant.  I wasn’t starving so I just got chicken lettuce cups and poured a little soy sauce with wasabi (something spicy for my quest to induce labor).

Now I should go to bed, dang you daylight savings!

32 weeks

32 weeks…oh my!

So I’ve been pregnant for 8 months…sometimes it feels like it’s flown by, other times not so much.

Weekend recap…

SATURDAY

Since Keller got home we have worked out every day, so it was nice to take a day off and just be bums.

Breakfast: bagel and green greek yogurt smoothies

Cole has been wanting to watch Stars Wars cause the previews for Episode 1 in 3D coming to theaters has been on.  But my dad only had the Attack of the Clones movie so we put that on.  It’s seriously like the worst movie ever.  I had to go get a book to read while they were watching cause I wanted to throw something at the TV!  After the movie we went to lunch at Red Rock Brewery.

Lunch: my fav tuna sandwich in a pita pocket, ate half with salad and a few of Keller’s fries

The whole point of us going out was because Cole really wanted to go get some ice cream, but I made him have lunch first!  So after lunch we grabbed a Cold Stone.  I had a “like it” size chocolate with brownie.  Oh so yummy!

I was cordially invited to the Waldorf Astoria in Park City (right down the hill from my parents and for any The BACHELOR watchers..where they filmed the Park City episode) to have a hot chocolate party with my sister and nieces.  My sister had a free night stay and in an attempt to steal my title of world’s best aunt, took the girls for a sleepover…aren’t they special!!

Cole and Uncle Keller came over later to swim.  The pool is outside, heated, but still…the temperature outside was approximately 30 degrees and dropping.  The kids were in the pool for maybe 5 minutes before they ran to the hot tub and spent the rest of the time there.  I sat outside next to the hot tub on a lounge chair in my North Face jacket and Keller’s beanie wrapped in towels.  It was actually super fun!

Keller was craving Cafe Rio chips and queso and I was still full from lunch so we got a steak salad to share.  I had probably a total of 5 bites, because that’s what it’s like sharing something with my tape worm husband (that’s what his buddy nick named him cause he eats so much and no one can figure out where it all goes).  But it was fine cause I really wasn’t that hungry.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

Breakfast: Protein Pancake w/OJ

Keller took a 3 day job in Texas so we took him to the airport in the morning.  Cole was not cool with Daddy leaving again after he just got back, but we got over it.  I don’t know what my deal was but I was sooooo tired that we didn’t make it back for church, instead mommy took a nice long much needed and overdue nap!

We had a fun little family Super Bowl party with Michelle’s family.  We were commenting on how proud of ourselves we were that the food was pretty much all healthy.  We made chicken and pepper kabobs, pita w/hummus, fruit salad, veggies and light ranch dip, caprese’s on a stick (baby tomatoes with a small piece of mozzarella, and a sliver of basil drizzled with balsamic), shrimp, WW oatmeal cookies, and then of course we had to have some chips.  Michelle’s sister-in-law Missy brought a delicious buffalo chicken mac and cheese dish and these incredible cake balls.  Needless to say we were all stuffed by the end of the night…but it was all soooo good!

MONDAY

I felt like someone beat me with a b$&#h stick today.  It was bad…and my day did not help my mood.  Took Cole to school and then went to spin.  We had a substitute from our usual teacher and she was AWFUL.  Her music was awful, she didn’t know how to use the microphone so you couldn’t hear her, she didn’t have set sequences (like a hill, or intervals, or speed work) she just let her iPod shuffle songs.  It was the longest hour of my life.

Pre-workout: 1 heaping tsp PB and 1/2 banana

I thought maybe after I got home and got some food in me maybe my attitude would improve, but it really didn’t.

I went to get my haircut and that was the highlight of my day.  My hairstylist redeemed himself from last time and gave me a really good cut (see prego picture).

And then I went to Costco.  I spent almost an hour wandering around and left with only 7 things.  And then of course I picked the LONGEST line possible.  I headed up the canyon and started really wanting a veggie sandwich from Great Harvest. They stop serving sandwiches at 3, it was 2:40.  So I called to have it ready for me to pick up.  I also had to have a slice of their cinnaburst bread because (as I’ve justified to myself) we won’t be living here that much longer and I won’t be pregnant that much longer so I’m taking advantage when I can!  My sister Sherilynn who lives about 10 min from my parents house is out of town and needed someone to bring in here garbage cans so I took my lunch to her house.  Her driveway was literally a sheet of ice.  So my 8 month pregnant self (in flats mind you) had to shuffle in the snow pulling her garbage can down and holding onto my car.  I told my dad it’s a good thing I workout and have abs of steel 😉 or I would have fallen multiple times!  So I make it in her house and dry off my snow covered feet and go to unwrap my lunch.  My veggie sandwich is literally tomato and lettuce…like for reals…so I called Great Harvest to ask them if they had just run out of their veggies and she was like uh no I don’t think so.  UGGG…luckily Sherilynn had 1/2 a zucchini in her fridge so I cut it up and stuck it on and it wasn’t too bad!

Picked up Cole from school and he begged the whole way home to watch X-Men.  I read my book again.  Wasn’t really hungry for dinner when Cole was so I made him dinner and then we went back to the movie.  Even though he had just eaten, he wanted a bagel to to eat while finishing the movie.  He only ate about 1/3 of it, so the rest of it was my dinner!  By the time the movie was over it was time for bath and bed.  I literally spent the rest of the night finishing my book.  I couldn’t put it down.  I realized at 10:15pm when I finally finished that I hadn’t eaten anything else besides that bagel.  Oh well.

A little distracted!

As I’m sure everyone assumed, I’ve been a little distracted lately with the homecoming of my hubby. So I’m going to do a quick recap cause I’m so tired my eyes are burning!

FRIDAY…

Busy day, tried to keep myself distracted so the day would go by faster.  Went to spin in the morning, had my usual pre workout snack (1/2 banana and 1 tsp PB)

Post workout: ran out of cottage cheese, so I had scrambled egg with whites and toast

Came home and got ready to go to a movie with my parents.  We saw One for the Money with Katherine Heigl, I wasn’t expecting it to be that great, but it was actually really entertaining.  Had a couple handfuls of popcorn in the movie.

Lunch: chicken gyro

Picked up Cole from school a little early cause he had belt testing at Taekwondo.  He is now an orange belt!

Went to Cafe Rio…again…with Heidi and Adam and family after.  Cole and I shared a steak salad…again!

SATURDAY…

Woke up pretty early with excitement and anticipation for the day.

Breakfast: Nature’s Path GF waffle w/PB

We got ready and headed down to Salt Lake around 9am cause I had to stop and get my car cleaned before we picked up Keller.  Then we headed to the airport.  This was Cole for about 15 minutes before Daddy arrived:

He would not let Daddy put him down until we got to the car and even then it was a struggle.  This is what we call a stage 5 CLINGER!  😉

We headed out to do some errands and then grabbed lunch at Cheesecake Factory.  I had the Skinnylicious mexican chicken wraps, a couple bites of Cole’s mac and cheese…that is seriously like the best mac and cheese in the world…and some french fries.

We came home so Keller could take a shower and not smell like the Middle East and just hung out with my Dad and sister Michelle.  Cole’s cousins were over so he was distracted playing with them.

Snack: Great Harvest bran muffin (started with half, ended up eating the whole thing)

At night we went to Maxwell’s for dinner…so that means fries, pizza, and salad.  Luckily everyone was full by the end and we didn’t end of having our usual dessert the cookizza with ice cream that would have really set me over my limits for the day (like I wasn’t already there!).

SUNDAY…

Woke up starving so I had a slice of cinnamon toast before making Keller his requested protein pancake for breakfast.

Apparently 2 protein pancakes were not enough to satisfy Keller cause he moved on to leftover pizza at 9:30 in the morning!

Went to church.  Snacked on half a protein bar and some Trader Joe’s nuts and berries.

Came home and had leftovers for lunch.  It was like a leftover smorgasbord, mac and cheese, pizza, bran muffins, pretty much all the crap we ate the day before resurrected to eat again.  I also enjoyed one of my treats from Keller…a Coke Light from Dubai…so yummy!!

I was in charge of dinner and in honor of Keller’s homecoming made his favorite…steak…we also had salad, potatoes, and green beans with snap peas.

Oh and then some WW oatmeal cookies for dessert.

I was so full by the end of Sunday it hurt.  It felt like Christmas…this is not a holiday, this is not a holiday, this is not a holiday!

MONDAY…

Took Cole to school and then headed to the gym.  Keller got a temporary membership so we could workout at the same time.  I went to spin, he went to do whatever it is he does.  My usual pre and post workout foods.

Keller told me a couple weeks ago that I couldn’t go see any new movies so that we could see them together when he got back.  So we picked Man on a Ledge and went with mom and dad to see it.  Grabbed Great Harvest sandwiches on the way and ate them in the theater.  I shared my usual veggie sandwich with my mom.

We picked up Cole from school after the movie and headed home.  I did some yoga cause my back was killing me and I just felt really uncomfortable.  I’m not sure if it’s because I feel like I’m eating constantly since you know who got home, or if it’s just a finally experience pregnancy issues, but I have been super uncomfortable the last couple days.

Dinner: Mom made a recipe from my Real Simple magazine, a healthy alternative to chicken pot pie…I thought it was good, she put lots of veggies in it and I didn’t have to cook it so it was great!

TUESDAY…

The clinger work up at 6:30am again (he’s been doing this ever since Daddy got home, it’s killing me!).  We turned on the movie Real Steel and watched it while eating cereal for breakfast.  I started to get ready to go do some intervals on the treadmill when I heard my mom start it up before I got there.  So instead, we all got ready and headed to the gym.  I warmed up with a 10min jog on the treadmill and then Keller put me through a little circuit pyramid style workout, which means you do 10 reps, then 9, then 8, 7, etc all the way down to 1:

incline bench press, kettle bell sumo squats with a high pull, regular squats with an overhead press…then we did “sevens” 7 sets of:  7 reps bicep curl halfway up from bottom, then 7 halfway down from top, then 7 full curls.  Loved it!  Great workout!

Post workout…guess?

Got ready and headed down to Salt Lake for my feta echocardiogram.  Everything looks great!  We headed over to the mall after the Dr. appt to take some things back and grabbed lunch at one of my favorite restaurants Trio.

Lunch: flatbread with roasted tomatoes and goat cheese, salad, 1/2 veggie panini

I told Keller to smile and this is what he gave me.

Took the boys to Taekwondo and then headed over to Heidi and Adam’s.  It was Adam’s birthday so no Tuesdays with Heidi again today.  Adam requested his favorite chicken coconut curry with a Ding Dong cake for dessert.  It was all delicious.  I ate a little too many pita chips and hummus before dinner though!

Once again so full…haven’t counted points for 2 days, I blame Keller, even though I totally know it’s all my fault!  It’s ok, back on track tomorrow.  At least I still did my workouts!

Took the boys to skiing , came home and pulled out the snow blower to clean up the driveway.  I will not be applying for any snow removal jobs anytime soon.

Snack/Lunch: 4

Picked up the boys and took them to taekwondo.  Met up with Michelle and the kids for dinner at Cafe Rio after.

FRIDAY

Pre-workout: 1

Ran/walked intervals on the treadmill, 45 minutes total.  I’ve determined I can no longer do this. Spin is so much more low impact and the run/walking increases some pain that I have in my low extremities.

Post-workout: Protein Pancake 6

Enjoyed a 90-minute massage that my husband gave me for Christmas, and then took a lovely nap…talk about the best day ever!

Snack: 6

Picked up Cole from school and he asked if we could go get doughnuts.  Since I had to go to the store, I fulfilled his request.  Good thing we don’t live by a Krispy Kreme or this picture would have been of the 2 of us!

Dinner: rotisserie chicken, salad, and sourdough bread 8

SATURDAY

Breakfast: Nature’s Path GF waffle w/PB 5

Spent the morning cleaning the house for grammy!  It was snowing but not really sticking so we headed down to Salt Lake to do some errands.  Cole feel asleep in the car before we even hit the summit, he was sooo tired from all his hard work cleaning the house, I mean playing with his toys that morning.  I tried to take a picture but then thought better of attempting to take a picture of my sleeping son while driving in hazardous road conditions in a canyon.

Late Lunch: veggie sandwich and a cinnamon scone (I have been holding out for a long time for this scone and it was super delicious, tried to just eat half, but that didn’t happen!)

When we got to the mall the rain was coming down in sheets, sideways!  After driving around for 15 minutes trying to find a parking spot we made a run for the door.  By the time we got into Nordstrom we looked like we’d both just been in a shower.  When we left the mall it was snowing.  Seriously it hasn’t snowed for a month and I choose the worst weather day of the year to do my errands.

Heidi’s little girl Remy was having a birthday party, which meant playdate for Cole and Heidi’s older boys (and 8-10 other older cousins and friends).  It was a cookies and milk party, Heidi is so creative!  I was super proud of myself and only had 1 cookie out of all these yummy looking treats!

We stayed a little too long, by the time we got on the freeway to head home this is what is looked like.

The highway patrol was stopping every vehicle going up the canyon to make sure they had chains or 4-wheel drive.  I was very grateful for a 4×4 vehicle with new tires, the canyon was snow packed and there were lots of vehicles off on the side of the road.  Cole and I snacked on some goldfish while we were stopped.

Took us about an hour to get up to Park City, usually it takes 20min, but we made it safe and sound.  Stopped at a Chinese restaurant for dinner.

Dinner: an egg roll which I got for Cole, but he didn’t like it, and neither did I really, 2 steamed pot stickers, brown rice, shrimp w/broccoli and some chicken low mein

PS I really don’t like Chinese food…I started not liking it after I was pregnant with Cole and guess what, I still don’t…don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but it makes me feel so gross after eating!  In case you cared 😉

SUNDAY

Didn’t take any food pics today, only pics of all the new snow.

Had to pull out the snow blower again, luckily it died AFTER I finished the most important part of the driveway.  Today was the first day that I was actually really bummed I can’t go snowboarding!  Look at all that fresh powder!

And later that afternoon I found Cole waiting patiently for Grammy and Papa to get home…I am now officially chopped liver!

MONDAY

Had to go to the 8:30am spin class because of a dr.’s appointment and was pleasantly surprised that the teacher was my hardcore teacher subbing.

Post-workout: protein pancake and fruit 6

Went to my 30-week dr. appointment and just as she had predicted, the heart murmur was gone.  She still wants me to get the fetal cardio echo just to be safe, but it did make me feel much better.  Grabbed my favorite sandwich at Great Harvest for lunch.

Headed to the hospital to volunteer (I was filling in for a lady that filled in for me).

It started snowing again, thank goodness Dad is home now cause that means I’m off snow blowing duty!

A Quisty Christmas

So much to recap…a holiday week full of family, food, and fun!  Here’s my recap, I ate a lot  of yummy delicious food and it was yummy and delicious!  The end.

Epiphany for the holiday: One thing that my family and I all came to a consensus on was how much our family has changed in terms of what and how much we eat.  For example, on Christmas Day I made our traditional waffles for breakfast.  I tripled the batch thinking the last time I had only doubled it and it wasn’t enough.  I don’t think we even ate 2 batches.  There were so many leftover waffles it was like a Costco version of homemade waffles.

So after breakfast we usually just have a small snack and then make a big copy dinner of one of our favorite meals from the restaurant Lawry’s.  It usually consists of prime rib, homemade rolls, cream corn, salad, and veggies followed by pies and ice cream for dessert.  By the time 5pm rolled around we were all still so full from breakfast no one was interested in a big dinner.  So I didn’t make rolls which is like unheard of and almost illegal…all we had was prime rib, veggies, and salad.

We also haven’t had as much junk in the house, we had to freeze some cinnamon rolls we bought because no one was eating them.  It’s actually really awesome.

Highlights of the week:  besides are usual movies, card games, and just hanging out, here are some other fun things we did.

Christmas Eve Bunco…we went to my sisters’ house and played Bunco for Christmas Eve.  After the game the kids got to open their Christmas jammies.

This is my sister Michelle’s youngest Will…he’s the freakin’ cutest dang kid in the world.

Christmas morning: We almost had to wake the kids up so that we would have time to open presents before church.  We got Daddy on Skype so he could be with us for the morning.  It was awesome.  I love technology…always and forever!

Cole had to wear his new Christmas tie to church!

Swimming and Shakes:  We took the kids to the pool where Papa goes for his rehab and Cole goes for his swimming lessons.  Usually the only people at the pool are us and maybe one other family, as you can see in the background the Christmas vacation along with the lack of snow on the mountains meant a very busy pool.  After swimming we went to a favorite place for burgers and shakes.  I worked really hard at my spin class in the morning so that I could enjoy my mint chocolate chip oreo shake…and I DID!

Cafe Rio and the Museum:  New Year’s Eve is my sister and nieces’ birthday, but they will be in Idaho with family so today we went to Cafe Rio for lunch and celebrated.  Then he headed over to the museum.  The kids had the most fun playing with the green screen exhibit.  Anything they covered with green turned invisible on the tv screen.

I think the adults were more pooped than the kids! (in case you can’t tell that’s my sister in a stroller)

Tonight we’re watching the Mission Impossible trilogy in preparation to see the new one tomorrow.  Oh the joy of Christmas vacation!
