40 pounds lost

Happy 40 pounds not on my body day!!

So yesterday was a big day and I wanted to blog about it, but it was a busy Friday the 13th. Yesterday was weigh-in day and with a 2.2 pound loss, it took me to a total of 41.3 pounds lost since Cruz was born 15 weeks ago.  I am now 10.7 pounds from my goal!  I was so excited to hit the 40 pound mark that I bought myself a present…

(yes they are magenta and pay no attention to the P90X bruise on my shin, or the fact that I’m wearing the shoes in bed and most likely don’t have pants on)

These are the Nike ‘Free Run+ 3′ purchased at my favorite store…Nordstrom!!  They have a million colors and a few other different styles on their Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!!!!  These are the best tennis shoes in the world.  They are lightweight, comfy and cushy, and super cute…what more could you ask for????

Progress Chart

My friend Heidi (you will remember from Tuesdays with Heidi) and I were able to hang out a couple times this week and talked a lot about weighing yourself, when to do it, how often, and what’s a good amount to lose each week.  First of all I think a lot of people have totally wrong ideas about what a normal, healthy amount of weight to lose each week is.  I know I did.  I always thought that I could drop a bunch of weight fast and if I was only losing 1 pound something wasn’t working.  Heidi has had concerns because she goes down, then up, then down further, then up, then down further, and she’s discouraged by the inconsistency.  So I asked her when her weigh-in day was and she said she weighed herself once a day.  I told her that was her first problem and suggested she pick one day per week to weigh-in and preferably on Friday or Saturday so she could enjoy the weekend.  Back in June I sent her a text of a quote I had read…

So 4 days later this was her response…

I think back to a year ago when I was counting my points, working out twice a day, and not losing a pound.  It was so frustrating.  I don’t know why the weight seems to literally be falling off me right now.  I mean I know I am working hard at my workouts, trying to stay within my daily food points, and drinking my Body by Vi shakes, but I honestly think the MAIN reason why it’s finally working is because I’m not stressed about it.  I’m taking my time, enjoying the process, challenging myself but also rewarding myself.  Don’t stress, be patient!

Fire Bites…

Thursday, Heidi and I took the kids to a bouncy house.  I was not prepared to be there for 4 hours!  So after only having eaten a Vi shake, 1/2 a balance bar, an apple, 4 migraine pills, and a coke zero, I was literally shaking by the time we got home.  I made myself a turkey and avocado sandwich w/carrots to eat before my 90 minute hot yoga class.  I put a picture of side crow pose because I attempted it during class…let’s just say I definitely didn’t look like that chick!

Friday the 13th we met my sister and her kids at the Utah Natural History museum.  It is seriously such a cool place and the kids love it.  Poor Grace broke her wrist when she fell off her bike last weekend, but she gets to wear a sweet orange cast!  We got lunch at Corner Bakery after.  Came back up to Park City and I took Cole and Cruz to the park.  The weather was kind of spooky, overcast and a little windy, but the temperature was perfect.  Eventually it started raining so we had to head home.  As we were about to leave to go out to dinner later that night, the power went out.  We thought maybe it was just our area, but all of Park City was out so we came back home and whipped up an old favorite Tzatziki Chicken.  We had dinner by candlelight and the boys got baths by flashlight.  I took a picture of my mom and dad on their iPad’s and iPhones because apparently we can do just fine without power!

Today was another rainy overcast day.  I tried to get my P90X2 Back and Base video done early so I could help my dad with some stuff.  He taught he how to use a socket thingy (ha I still don’t know what the tool is called) to unscrew bolts in a bed we were taking down.  It’s actually surprisingly easy, so next time you think your man is all skilled with his tools, just know it’s not that hard!  I had the best salad for lunch, it was a warm goat cheese salad that had spring mix, goat cheese, pears, tomatoes, and I added chicken.  It was super yummy!  My friend Taryn had her baby yesterday so we went to the hospital to meet him.  He still doesn’t have a name, so for now he’s Baby Lebell!  He is such a cutie.  I can’t believe how time has flown and how big Cruz is now.  The cousin boys got to have a sleepover at Aunt Sherilynn’s tonight and my mom took Cruz home with her so I could go to dinner with Heidi.  We had time to get pedicures before, which I desperately needed.  I got the shellac nail polish for the first time in hopes that it will last a long time cause I’m not sure when I’ll be able to get a pedi again.  Then Heidi and I went to Bombay House for some delicious Indian food.  We were both so hungry that I don’t remember much conversation once the food arrived 😉  She refuses to pose for pictures so I had to take a bunch to try and get a good one.

Lexy and Carman are living it up in Miami at the ViSalus conference Vitality!!  I’m so jealous I wasn’t able to join them, but am looking forward to all the fun 90-Day Challenge updates they’ll bring back.  Next Tuesday is day 30 of our 90-day challenge…how is everyone else doing on your challenges??

To function or not to function…that is the question!

I choose my featured image picture because it portrays perfectly my current state of being…plus Torry (Lexy’s husband) thought it was really scary 😉  Then they all tried to copy my face.

Week 2 and 3 as a mother of 2.  There was lots of exhaustion, several naps, one night of my awesome hubby letting me sleep through the night in the upstairs bedroom, 2 walks up the hill (1 that included Keller in body armor and lots of lunges and squats), 1 run on the treadmill (1 day following regretting this run), 1 workout with Keller’s TRX bands, one date night, Easter Sunday, Keller starting a training and being gone all day every day, field trips to the Hill Aerospace museum and the Natural History museum, and the beginning of Crystal Light Energy helping me make it through the day.

Weight Loss and Exercise:

I’m making Friday my weigh in days until I can get to my meetings.  There are Thursday night meetings up here in Park City that I need to start attending, but it hasn’t worked out with schedules yet.  My total weight gain for my pregnancy was 28 pounds, according to my first weigh-in at my Dr’s office, 33 pounds if you count from my last WW weigh in.  So on 3/30 I was down 12.5 pounds, on 4/6 I was down another 8.2, and today I was down another 3.5 for a total loss of 24.2lbs.  I have been semi counting points.  I really have not been that hungry, so I’m pretty sure I’m staying within my daily allotted.  I’m trying to ease back into my workouts because I do feel better on the days that I get to workout, but most days I’m so tired the thought of exuding enough energy to put my tennis shoes on is overwhelming!  I’m one of those people that DO NOT function well without sleep.  So getting back to a normal daily routine is going to take a little bit, but I’m taking it one day at a time.

The best part of my week was doing this walk with Keller.  We walked up the hill and every 5 minutes stopped and did 20 walking lunges.  At the top I did 3 sets of 10 push-ups and on the way down we did 20 squats every 5 minutes.  I was definitely sore the next day!

This was my “It Begins” face.

I didn’t take a picture of my…”oh crap that really hurt” face.

Food and Points:

I’m still using my dietSNAPS app and taking pictures of everything I eat.  I haven’t gone back to entering my food in the WW app yet.  And as for posting everything I eat, I don’t think anyone wants to look at a post with 2 weeks worth of food pics so for now I will take it one day at a time.  I definitely feel like I’m not as hungry and I’m trying to take advantage of that feeling cause I’m sure it won’t last long.  It’s like I’m too tired to care about eating.  I’m trying to stay away from crap, most of my meals are the usual protein pancakes, green greek smoothies, greek yogurts, mint cookie Balance Bars, fruit, and just trying to stick with veggies and protein for dinner with the occasional indulgences.

Oh and of course, the Coke Zero’s…Mommy’s milk and Cruz’s milk!

Last Saturday night we took family pictures in a beautiful orchard in Kaysville.  It was a little chilly, but the boys were troopers and I can’t wait to see how the pictures turned out!  We stopped at In-N-Out for dinner on the way home.   We were all so hungry and I enjoyed every bite of my hamburger and shared some of Cole’s fries and chocolate shake while he covered his face with stickers.  Not sure why he loves to put stickers there.  Good thing he doesn’t have a hairy face!

We had a great Easter.  Cole loved dyeing eggs in Kool aid.  Thank you Pinterest!

Easter Sunday was probably my best day.  I think it was because I had finally caught up on a little sleep.  We took pics on the porch after church, poor Cruz just looks like he’s squished!

And then enjoyed the beautiful weather with a picnic lunch outside.

This week the best days were when we went on field trips with our cousins.  It usually ends up taking forever, but I love being able to get out of the house.  I’m trying to get my vitamin D and endorphins everyday, cause otherwise I end up feeling totally crappy and even more tired.

This was Monday at the Hill Aerospace Museum.

And this was Thursday at the Utah Natural History Museum.

All in all I’m doing my best and that’s all I can do.  I’m trying not to stress about things I can’t control (which is super hard for me).  We have a lot going on in our lives right now and we seem to be in a constant state of chaos and change.  I hope one day I can feel like I have a normal life, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen anytime soon.  And I just have to say to all the moms out there especially to ones with multiple children close in age or to those who’s husbands are gone all the time or those who don’t live by family…so pretty much any mom out there…you are amazing!  Being a mom is hard work and any one who says different should be punched in the face :).  So here’s my salute to mom’s everywhere!

Birthday boy

Birthday Boys and Sicky Boys

I love Mondays cause I love to start my week with a good workout!  I had a Dr. appointment scheduled for 11 so I couldn’t go to my usual 9:30 spin class, instead I got Cole off to school early and made it (a little late) to the 8:30am class.  I didn’t like the teacher as much as I like others I’ve had, but I was still sweaty at the end so it must have worked.

Didn’t have time for a pre-workout and I really should have had one.  I noticed a huge difference in my energy level.

Breakfast: my usual Protein Pancake and green smoothie  5pts

I’ve changed up my smoothie recipe a little… 1/2C water, 2 cups spinach (about…I never measure, just fill up my Magic Bullet blender cup to the top), and a squirt of lime juice (instead of the lemon wedge), blend, then add 1/2 banana and 1C frozen fruit (I get the Festival Blend from Costco and use 1/2C with 1/2C frozen blueberries…makes it a purple smoothie instead of a green one).

After breakfast my parents had a leak in the TV room of their house so I went downstairs to help pat water out of the carpet.  Then I headed to my Dr. appointment.  Everything is looking good, I gained the 2 pounds back that I had lost before Christmas, but I was happy it wasn’t more with all the crap I ate!  My Dr. did hear a little murmur in the heartbeat of the baby and so I have to go get an ultrasound of the baby’s heart.  She acted as if it was a normal thing that can come and go often and didn’t seem worried so I guess I’m not.  I took some prego pics to post since the FLF girls reminded me during our conference call that I haven’t posted any.  Here’s the thing though…I’ve only started showing in the past 2-3 weeks.  Before then I just looked like I was growing wider.  I took a morning and night picture because I think I look much more pregnant at night, but you can’t really tell in this picture because I’m wearing black in the night pic.

Prego Cyndi 28 weeks…12 more to go (hopefully more like 10, fingers crossed)

After my Dr. appointment my mom and I went to Great Harvest to share my favorite veggie sandwich.  And of course I had to have a sample of their delicious cinnaburst bread.  It was warm and I inhaled it!  1/2 sandwich, then 1/3 of mom’s and sample bread- 10pts

Had a very productive day of getting things on my to do list done.  Snacked on some grapes and 1/2 apple before heading down to my sister’s for a birthday dinner for my nephew Will.  She made spaghetti and meatballs and it was so delicious I had to ask for the recipe.  Turns out it’s the easiest recipe in the world.  Add Costco Kirkland brand meatballs and Trader Joe’s tomato sauce (or any other you like) to a crockpot and cook on high for 2-3 hours.  Serve over spaghetti!  5 meatballs = 7pts, I had 3 and it was more than enough.  Talk about super easy, delicious, comfort food!  Would be delicious over spaghetti squash to save you 5pts of pasta.

Dinner: 1C spaghetti (5pts) w/3 meatballs (4pts) and about 1/4C sauce (1pt) sprinkled with parmesan cheese (1pt), salad (1pt), garlic bread (6pts) and fruit  18pts

Birthday cake!!!  Baskin Robbins mint chocolate chip roll cake 8pts

Here’s the birthday boy!  Just before opening his presents.  So stinking cute!

TUESDAY:

Cole woke up hacking and all stuffed up.  Tuesdays are our busy days, he usually has swimming and taekwondo.  But today was a movie and bed day.  He literally watched 4 movies and was able to take a nap.  Hopefully whatever it is will pass soon and will not turn into an ear infection like it usually does.

Breakfast while skyping with daddy: 1.5C Nature’s Path Flaxseed cereal and a banana  6pts

Snack: I bought these at Costco over Christmas and told myself I’ve never buy them again cause they’re so addicting.  BUT…I never listen to myself and bought them last week.  Had about 4 slices 2pts.

Since I wasn’t going to taekwondo meant I wasn’t going to make it for Tuesdays with Heidi and since it’s been so long since we’ve had one, I decided I would make something and make it Tuesdays with just me.  I’ll post the recipe in a separate post.

Lunch: Shared some of Cole’s leftover mac and cheese from this weekend, didn’t measure but about 3/4C 8pts

Took a much needed nap and woke up in time to finish up dinner.  Cole requested chocolate chip cookies and since he was sick and never requests them, I happily obliged.  He wanted to help…and eat the chocolate chips!

Dinner: Chicken Enchilada Veggie Soup, 4 chips (counted out 12, but didn’t like them) with about 1TBSP guac.  10pts

Snack: 2 cookies and a Coke Zero (some people like cookies and milk, I like cookies and coke zero!) while watching Kung Fu Panda 2  10pts

Skeptical

Listen to your body!

This post is for Lexy and Carman…yesterday my eyes were opened to the fact that I am not super woman. What???  I know, but it’s true.  After a Wednesday spin class, 120 make-up burpees (on the BOSU), and my Thursday buns and guns class where we spent most of the class on these:

They are called gliders and you can probably guess what they do…they glide.  These can be used for a variety of different exercises under the hands or under the feet.  It makes the workout way more intense causing the entire core to contract while sliding back on forth on the gliders.  We used them almost the entire class for tons of exercises such as: mountain climbers, one-legged burpees with shoulder press, side lunges, push-ups, and lots more I can’t remember.  Since my core was already sore from my burpees the day before, I couldn’t complete every exercise and modified a lot.

So after all that, Thursday evening I started having some pain in my stomach.  It was a hard to describe pain kinda of all over my belly, strong and horribly uncomfortable.  I thought maybe it was something I ate, but I really hadn’t eaten a lot that day and nothing different than usual.  It got to the point that when we sat down for dinner I could hardly eat and was doubling over in pain.  My mom took over getting Cole to bed and I went to take a bath and get in bed.  I did some googling and found that it was most likely gas…which my mom and I concluded today, came from some bad spinach in my green smoothie.  The fact that my core was so sore from all the workouts just intensified the pain.

So even though I do feel like I listen to my body and don’t push myself too hard, I may have to re-evaluate.  Carman and Lexy voted me out of the burpee challenge with a vote of thanks.  I have not accepted this forced exit, but I have a feeling it’s going to be harder to keep up everyday.  All I can do is my best and my goal is to finish the challenge one way or the other.

Wednesday’s Fire Bites

Pre-spin: 2

1 hr spin class +12/120 burpees

Post-spin: 5

Volunteered at the hospital, Wednesdays are now my official days.  Started getting a huge headache halfway through my shift so I grabbed a coke zero (after going 2 days without caffeine, yeah for me, 2 whole days!).  Picked up Cole from school and headed home.  I bought a kabocha squash last week to make for my mom who is doing a very strict protein/veggie diet.  She had bought a rotisserie chicken from Costco and I made the squash.  It was a super delicious dinner!

Snack: apple w/PB  3

THURSDAY Fire Bites

Pre-buns and guns: 2

Kick my BUNS and GUNS class +12

Post-B&G: Muscle Milk light  3

Cole I went to the rec center and I Skype chatted with Keller while Cole played.  Came home and had lunch and both of us went down for naps!

Lunch protein pancake and green smoothie 5.

We got up just in time for Taekwondo.  Snack on the way: 5

I dropped Cole off and went to do some Christmas shopping.  Grabbed Chipotle for dinner on the way home.

Dinner: burrito bowl- brown rice(awesome!), small bit of black beans, chicken, fajita veggies, pico, sprinkle of cheese, lettuce, guac…this was the night I got sick, I ate maybe 1/3  6pts?

FRIDAY fire bites

Breakfast…another protein pancake and green smoothie 5

50min of yoga at home

It was Heidi’s (from Tuesdays with Heidi) birthday so I surprised her and showed up at her house to take her to lunch.  We went to one of both our favorites Cafe Trio.  I really wish she would let me take pictures with her.  We both looked really cute today!

Lunch: 15?

appetizer…rosemary flatbread w/white bean, pesto, and olive spread…I had 3 pieces of the flatbread

lunch…portabello mushroom and veggie panini w/mozarella and a cup of roasted red pepper soup…ate the entire sandwich, and maybe 4 bites of the soup

dessert…Heidi’s choice, creme brûlée I had literally maybe 2 tsp…so full from the rest of my lunch

Made a Costco run to exchange my Garmin…hopefully this one works.  Picked up Cole and we went home. Papa has been wanting to try this BBQ place in Heber, UT (about 20 min from Park City) so we went tonight.  It claims to be “Texas” BBQ.

Cole chillin’ on the way…thank goodness for car DVD players!

This is Cole and my skeptical face that it would be anything like REAL TEXAS BBQ.

Dinner: side salad (did not eat croutons or all of the cheese), brisket sandwich (ate 1/3 of the bun), 3 bites of Cole’s pulled pork sandwich, a few green beans

My overall rating of the place is a 5 out of 10.  The brisket was good, but definitely NO extra lean Rudy’s brisket.  The beans were out of a can and in water with a piece of bacon that was gray.  The potato’s were good, but I’m not a crazy potato person, I can pass them up.  The service was not awesome, they gave Cole RANCID milk!  And before we even got home my stomach was hurting and I had to spend some time in the loo. TMI I know!

I will be listening to my body the next time my Dad suggests going to this BBQ place again.  😉
