There aren’t enough hours in the day!

Anyone else feeling totally overwhelmed?  I know us FLF girls are.  I’m personally giving up precious minutes of sleep to do this post because I felt it was a little ridiculous that it’s been almost a month since I’ve posted.  So with a pile of unfolded laundry pushed over onto my husband’s side of the bed (who is not here), I will try to make this short and quick so I can try and get some sleep before my baby, who refuses to be sleep trained, wakes me up to feed him!

So where have I been the last month (23 days to be exact)? Uh, nowhere.  But, I did have my brother, his wife, and their 2 daughters staying with us for 2 1/2 weeks, so I blame them for me being too distracted to post.  It was so fun having them here.  Here are some highlights from their trip:

My niece was baptized in my sister Michelle’s pool.

It was such a cool and intimate family experience to have that I hope to also be able to do for my boys!

There was lots of eating out, so my brother could get all his Utah food fixes.

Went on a few hikes to burn off all the food we were eating.

Cole graduated from Preschool.

I finished my first phase of P90X2 and made my niece join in for one of my workouts.

Then almost killed her by making her a post-workout protein shake with SOY protein that she is apparently allergic to, no bueno!

They left to go back home on Father’s Day, boo, we’ll miss you!  Missed Daddy on Father’s Day, but got to spend the day with Papa.

Monday my Mom, Cole, Cruz, and I left for a trip to Disneyland.  We stopped in Vegas on the way down and stayed at The Trump Hotel again.  Cole had a blast in the bath tub!  I also started my 90-day challenge with the Body by Vi shakes with Lexy and Carman.  Since I was going out of town, I packed my shaker cup and shake powder and did the best I could.  My mom and I were really good with our food choices, as you’ll see in the pictures below, we really only had “junk food” once.  We packed healthy snacks like apples, bananas, carrots, celery, nuts, and Balance Bars.  When we ate out we choose chicken salads, Chipotle burrito bowls, veggies and hummus, egg white omelets, etc.  I brought my yoga mat, but was only able to do it Monday night after we got to the hotel.  The other days were too jam packed, but I’m pretty sure I burned a few calories walking all over Disneyland for 2 days!

We drove to Anaheim on Tuesday and checked into the Disneyland Hotel.  We gave Cole the choice of either going to the pool or going to the park and he chose the pool (he didn’t realize until the next day the choice he really made!).

We woke up early Wednesday to try to get into the park early to ride the Radiator Springs Racers ride in the new Cars Land.  We didn’t make it early enough and ended up going in with everyone else.  It didn’t matter though because Mommy was smart enough to go into the single rider line which was half the wait time as the regular line and we still ended up being able to ride together.  We met up with my friend Sarah and her cute boy Calum.  Sarah’s husband Cameron works as a manager in Flo’s V8 Cafe in Cars Land, so they know Disneyland in and out.  It was awesome to have her as our tour guide because we ended up going on tons of rides I wouldn’t have even thought to go on.  Plus she took us to the best places to eat so it was seriously like the best day.  We ended up staying out late to see the World of Color Water Show and just when I thought Cole was going to totally lose it with exhaustion he surprised me with a second wind and we didn’t get back to the hotel until 11pm.

Thursday morning I woke up early (with Cruz) and was waiting like a little kid for Cole to get up so we could go back to the park.  We rode a few more rides and then drove out to my Uncle Tom’s to get our teeth cleaned.  We stayed the night in Vegas again.

Drove home Friday, so glad to be home.  Talk about a long freaking week.  But oh was it soooo much fun and I’m so glad we were able to do it.  Headed straight for my Magic Bullet for a Green Vi Smoothie!

In case you were wondering, this is pretty much where Cruz was the entire trip…

I weighed myself on Saturday obviously because I couldn’t on my usual Friday.  I lost another 1.6 pounds for a total weight loss of 35 pounds in the last 3 months.  I’m super happy with my progress and I’m going to keep on keeping on!!

This weekend was chill and my menu’s consisted of Vi shakes, Balance Bars, Trader Joe’s nuts and cranberries mix, a chicken gyro in a Flatout bread, some WW oatmeal cookies, and delicious mahi mahi with mango salsa (I’ll post the recipe tomorrow).  I also got to go to hot yoga on Saturday and wore my heart rate monitor to see how many calories I burn.  It was over 700!!

It seems like the craziness never ends.  There is always something to be done.  I’m learning that I really have to prioritize what needs to be done and what can be put aside in order to not completely lose it.  I’m excited to keep on my 90 day challenge with the Body by Vi shakes and start Phase 2 of P90X2 tomorrow.  I will also be embarking on the adventure of finding a house in Austin and moving back within the next month.  Oh joy!  The fun never ends!



Self Love

So I have a love hate relationship with hot yoga.  Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it while I’m loving it.  It’s hard.  And if you don’t think it’s hard, you’re not doing it right! What I do love is the different insights the teacher shares while I’m sweating my eyeballs out.

Side note: I actually cried during yoga this week, not sure why, I think it was because the pose I was in really hurt, my body was super tight.  There was probably more to it, I don’t often cry just because a pose hurts, but it was actually very cleansing, and nobody knows you’re crying in hot yoga because the tears blend in with all the sweat on your face…try it!!!

Anyway, the insight for this week was about Self Love.  The teacher was talking about how we carry ourselves, how we walk into a room, are our bodies up tall and open or are you hunched over and closed?  How you carry yourself says everything about how you feel about yourself.  She also talked about the people who always have a lot to say, and are always talking about themselves, it’s like they have something to prove.  If you truly have self love, you won’t really have a lot to say, you are content with yourself and have nothing to prove to others.  It made me think of this really funny segment by comedian Brian Regan called Me Monster (CLICK ON “ME MONSTER” to see the video and laugh your pants off!).  It’s all about the person who is continually one-uping everyone’s story and talking about how awesome he/she is.  Just watch it!

I definitely need to work on Self Love!  Stand a little taller next time you walk into a room and see if it makes a difference.  How did you feel standing tall?  Did others notice your confidence?

On to Fire Bites and Weigh In’s.

I forgot to post my Weigh In last week so I’ll do 2 in 1 this week.  Last week was the first week my hubby was gone so it was kind of like a detox week without trying 😉  I lost 3.6lbs.  This week I lost another 1.6lbs.  I’m super excited with my progress especially because I haven’t been restricting myself on foods.  I’m just trying to stay within my points and doing my P90X2.  I am also making sure to have a post-workout protein shake.

Wednesday FB’s: 1tsp PB (1), protein pancake and green smoothie (6), balance bar (5), turkey and avocado sandwich w/carrots and tomatoes and ranch (5), 1/2 tuna sandwich and a small portion of my mom’s salad (8), bite of brownie (1), Weight Watchers refurbished chocolate chip cookies first some dough, then 2 cooked cookies (at least 10!!)

Wednesday Workout

A week in review…

Monday (5/21), day 1 of my 90 days of P90X2.  It’s hard, but I’m excited to do it.  I like that since I can’t really go to a gym, I have a program laid out for me and I don’t have to think about what I’m going to do for my workout everyday.  Cole had a Tball game and it was hilarious.  At one point the entire team on the field was either laying down, sitting, spinning, or picking something.  Pure entertainment!

Tuesday, hung out at the park and got a little sunburned.  My sister Sherilynn came over for dinner and I made turkey primavera spaghetti.  Basically it was ground turkey, 2 cans of diced tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, and some onion.  I cooked down the tomatoes to make it into a sauce and then added everything else.  I also added fresh basil and let it simmer to soak up the flavors.  It was super light, healthy, and delicious! (I had mine over spaghetti squash)

Wednesday, did some yoga and errands for Cole’s birthday party.  Cole had another Tball game.

Wednesday FB’s: started the day off with 75min of hot yoga, 1tsp PB and 1/2 banana, my post-workout drink was a coke zero…Sherilynn must be rubbing off on me! when I got home I had a proper shake (3) :), protein pancake (6), chicken gyro (6) didn’t eat the pita, it was stale, green smoothie, nuts (3), leftover turkey primavera over spaghetti squash (5)

Workout: 75min Hot Yoga at Tadasana Yoga Studio (I’m sporting their sweatshirt below…love it!)

Thursday was a busy day.  We met Heidi and her kids and Rebecca at the park for lunch.  We packed out lunches and I tried to replicate my favorite Great Harvest veggie sandwich, except I added turkey.  Rebecca showed us pictures of her trip to Thailand.  It looks pretty amazing! After the park we went to my sisters house so I could watch the boys for the afternoon.  By the time we finally got home and got everyone in bed I was exhausted.  But I couldn’t go to bed until I blew up the balloons for Cole’s room.  I started this tradition last year.  I took pic once I finally got all of them in there, you can see Cole dead asleep in his bed.

Friday, Cole’s 5th birthday.  Holy cow, time flies!  Made him breakfast in bed and Skyped with daddy before school.  On the way to school we picked up doughnuts to celebrate with his school friends.  I came home and started getting things ready for his party.  Got on a conference call with Lexy and Carman that lasted over 2 1/2 hours.  My mom kept asking me questions and then I’d turn around with my ear phones in and she said You’re STILL on the phone!  It was like a flashback to high school when I would get in trouble for being on the phone so long.  We had a party for Cole at an indoor fun center in Salt Lake called Jungle Jim’s.  It’s pretty much his favorite place and we were lucky enough to have some Groupons!!  I got there early and set up with Avenger decorations and his big present, a new bike.  He hadn’t had a present ALL day and all he wanted to do when he got there was open presents.  Poor kid!  Next year, a present in the morning.  The day was so crazy that when I went back to look at what I ate I realized it wasn’t a ton which is why I was starving by the time the party came along and why I ate way too many cookies!

Friday FB’s: starting the day off bright and early with my friend Crystal Light Energy, toast w/PB (5), FAGE yogurt (3), tester cookie while making them for Cole’s party (5), apple, 2-mini Reese PB cups (3), piece of pizza (7), more cookie (10?), banana…felt super sick after eating clean all week and then eating junk

Saturday, ahhh I can breathe!  Today was chill day.  It was raining so it made it nice to just hang out at home.  Sherilynn and I went to see Men In Black 3.  I made Cole take a nap, he ended up sleeping for 4 hours!!!  Someone was seriously pooped.  The funniest thing was when Cole took the Cars camera he got for his bday and took a picture of his dinner because mommy always takes pictures of what she eats.

Sunday, church day and friends over for dinner.

Sunday FB’s:  toast w/pb (5), balance bar (5), turkey melt (7), snacked on licorice, a reese’s pb cup, leftover cookie, pretzels, just very snacks (12?), pork w/veggies, rice, salad and fruit (6), and this amazing dessert that was meringue drizzled w/chocolate and then topped with greek yogurt mixed with cream and topped with strawberries…soooo delicious (forgot to take a pic)!

Monday, Happy Memorial Day!  We spent the day at my sister’s for swimming and a BBQ.  It was perfect weather and such a fun day!  Both boys were asleep before we made it to the freeway.  I was super proud of myself because even though I couldn’t get my workout in before we left in the morning, I came home and did it at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Monday FB’s: 1tsp PB (1), apple, balance bar (5), 6 or so peanut M&M’s, 8-10 potato chips (both of these were grabbing as I walked from one place to another), steak w/veggies, fruit, crackers and hummus (10), red vines (8), protein shake (3), toast (2)

Tuesday, took my dad to the airport and stopped by the cemetery to look at all the flowers and flags that were placed for Memorial Day.  As we were walking back to the car from my grandparents grave I told Cole that my grandpa was an FBI agent and he says “like Gibbs on NCIS?”  I laughed so hard I almost pee’d my pants.  My 5-year-old if obsessed with NCIS!  We stopped by Heidi’s to borrow their Skuut bike to help Cole learn how to ride his new bike.  Came home and got lunch, took a nap, and then attempted the bike lessons.  The bike we bought him is too big :(  So we have to go find another one.  Cole requested breakfast for dinner again which made me happy because I’ve been dying for my protein pancake and green smoothie (the magic bullet is broken, but I managed to resurrect it for one more meal).

A little distracted!

As I’m sure everyone assumed, I’ve been a little distracted lately with the homecoming of my hubby. So I’m going to do a quick recap cause I’m so tired my eyes are burning!


Busy day, tried to keep myself distracted so the day would go by faster.  Went to spin in the morning, had my usual pre workout snack (1/2 banana and 1 tsp PB)

Post workout: ran out of cottage cheese, so I had scrambled egg with whites and toast

Came home and got ready to go to a movie with my parents.  We saw One for the Money with Katherine Heigl, I wasn’t expecting it to be that great, but it was actually really entertaining.  Had a couple handfuls of popcorn in the movie.

Lunch: chicken gyro

Picked up Cole from school a little early cause he had belt testing at Taekwondo.  He is now an orange belt!

Went to Cafe Rio…again…with Heidi and Adam and family after.  Cole and I shared a steak salad…again!


Woke up pretty early with excitement and anticipation for the day.

Breakfast: Nature’s Path GF waffle w/PB

We got ready and headed down to Salt Lake around 9am cause I had to stop and get my car cleaned before we picked up Keller.  Then we headed to the airport.  This was Cole for about 15 minutes before Daddy arrived:

He would not let Daddy put him down until we got to the car and even then it was a struggle.  This is what we call a stage 5 CLINGER!  😉

We headed out to do some errands and then grabbed lunch at Cheesecake Factory.  I had the Skinnylicious mexican chicken wraps, a couple bites of Cole’s mac and cheese…that is seriously like the best mac and cheese in the world…and some french fries.

We came home so Keller could take a shower and not smell like the Middle East and just hung out with my Dad and sister Michelle.  Cole’s cousins were over so he was distracted playing with them.

Snack: Great Harvest bran muffin (started with half, ended up eating the whole thing)

At night we went to Maxwell’s for dinner…so that means fries, pizza, and salad.  Luckily everyone was full by the end and we didn’t end of having our usual dessert the cookizza with ice cream that would have really set me over my limits for the day (like I wasn’t already there!).


Woke up starving so I had a slice of cinnamon toast before making Keller his requested protein pancake for breakfast.

Apparently 2 protein pancakes were not enough to satisfy Keller cause he moved on to leftover pizza at 9:30 in the morning!

Went to church.  Snacked on half a protein bar and some Trader Joe’s nuts and berries.

Came home and had leftovers for lunch.  It was like a leftover smorgasbord, mac and cheese, pizza, bran muffins, pretty much all the crap we ate the day before resurrected to eat again.  I also enjoyed one of my treats from Keller…a Coke Light from Dubai…so yummy!!

I was in charge of dinner and in honor of Keller’s homecoming made his favorite…steak…we also had salad, potatoes, and green beans with snap peas.

Oh and then some WW oatmeal cookies for dessert.

I was so full by the end of Sunday it hurt.  It felt like Christmas…this is not a holiday, this is not a holiday, this is not a holiday!


Took Cole to school and then headed to the gym.  Keller got a temporary membership so we could workout at the same time.  I went to spin, he went to do whatever it is he does.  My usual pre and post workout foods.

Keller told me a couple weeks ago that I couldn’t go see any new movies so that we could see them together when he got back.  So we picked Man on a Ledge and went with mom and dad to see it.  Grabbed Great Harvest sandwiches on the way and ate them in the theater.  I shared my usual veggie sandwich with my mom.

We picked up Cole from school after the movie and headed home.  I did some yoga cause my back was killing me and I just felt really uncomfortable.  I’m not sure if it’s because I feel like I’m eating constantly since you know who got home, or if it’s just a finally experience pregnancy issues, but I have been super uncomfortable the last couple days.

Dinner: Mom made a recipe from my Real Simple magazine, a healthy alternative to chicken pot pie…I thought it was good, she put lots of veggies in it and I didn’t have to cook it so it was great!


The clinger work up at 6:30am again (he’s been doing this ever since Daddy got home, it’s killing me!).  We turned on the movie Real Steel and watched it while eating cereal for breakfast.  I started to get ready to go do some intervals on the treadmill when I heard my mom start it up before I got there.  So instead, we all got ready and headed to the gym.  I warmed up with a 10min jog on the treadmill and then Keller put me through a little circuit pyramid style workout, which means you do 10 reps, then 9, then 8, 7, etc all the way down to 1:

incline bench press, kettle bell sumo squats with a high pull, regular squats with an overhead press…then we did “sevens” 7 sets of:  7 reps bicep curl halfway up from bottom, then 7 halfway down from top, then 7 full curls.  Loved it!  Great workout!

Post workout…guess?

Got ready and headed down to Salt Lake for my feta echocardiogram.  Everything looks great!  We headed over to the mall after the Dr. appt to take some things back and grabbed lunch at one of my favorite restaurants Trio.

Lunch: flatbread with roasted tomatoes and goat cheese, salad, 1/2 veggie panini

I told Keller to smile and this is what he gave me.

Took the boys to Taekwondo and then headed over to Heidi and Adam’s.  It was Adam’s birthday so no Tuesdays with Heidi again today.  Adam requested his favorite chicken coconut curry with a Ding Dong cake for dessert.  It was all delicious.  I ate a little too many pita chips and hummus before dinner though!

Once again so full…haven’t counted points for 2 days, I blame Keller, even though I totally know it’s all my fault!  It’s ok, back on track tomorrow.  At least I still did my workouts!
