I can snow blow, but not snowboard…it’s wrong I tell you!

5-day recap…no excuses except that I’ve been lazy!


Pre-workout: 1

Buns and Guns +12

Post-workout: Muscle Milk Light and a delicious 10-pt bran muffin from Great Harvest 12

Took the boys to skiing , came home and pulled out the snow blower to clean up the driveway.  I will not be applying for any snow removal jobs anytime soon.

Snack/Lunch: 4

Picked up the boys and took them to taekwondo.  Met up with Michelle and the kids for dinner at Cafe Rio after.


Pre-workout: 1

Ran/walked intervals on the treadmill, 45 minutes total.  I’ve determined I can no longer do this. Spin is so much more low impact and the run/walking increases some pain that I have in my low extremities.

Post-workout: Protein Pancake 6

Enjoyed a 90-minute massage that my husband gave me for Christmas, and then took a lovely nap…talk about the best day ever!

Snack: 6

Picked up Cole from school and he asked if we could go get doughnuts.  Since I had to go to the store, I fulfilled his request.  Good thing we don’t live by a Krispy Kreme or this picture would have been of the 2 of us!

Dinner: rotisserie chicken, salad, and sourdough bread 8

Spent the morning cleaning the house for grammy!  It was snowing but not really sticking so we headed down to Salt Lake to do some errands.  Cole feel asleep in the car before we even hit the summit, he was sooo tired from all his hard work cleaning the house, I mean playing with his toys that morning.  I tried to take a picture but then thought better of attempting to take a picture of my sleeping son while driving in hazardous road conditions in a canyon.

Late Lunch: veggie sandwich and a cinnamon scone (I have been holding out for a long time for this scone and it was super delicious, tried to just eat half, but that didn’t happen!)

When we got to the mall the rain was coming down in sheets, sideways!  After driving around for 15 minutes trying to find a parking spot we made a run for the door.  By the time we got into Nordstrom we looked like we’d both just been in a shower.  When we left the mall it was snowing.  Seriously it hasn’t snowed for a month and I choose the worst weather day of the year to do my errands.

Heidi’s little girl Remy was having a birthday party, which meant playdate for Cole and Heidi’s older boys (and 8-10 other older cousins and friends).  It was a cookies and milk party, Heidi is so creative!  I was super proud of myself and only had 1 cookie out of all these yummy looking treats!

We stayed a little too long, by the time we got on the freeway to head home this is what is looked like.

The highway patrol was stopping every vehicle going up the canyon to make sure they had chains or 4-wheel drive.  I was very grateful for a 4×4 vehicle with new tires, the canyon was snow packed and there were lots of vehicles off on the side of the road.  Cole and I snacked on some goldfish while we were stopped.

Took us about an hour to get up to Park City, usually it takes 20min, but we made it safe and sound.  Stopped at a Chinese restaurant for dinner.

Dinner: an egg roll which I got for Cole, but he didn’t like it, and neither did I really, 2 steamed pot stickers, brown rice, shrimp w/broccoli and some chicken low mein

PS I really don’t like Chinese food…I started not liking it after I was pregnant with Cole and guess what, I still don’t…don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but it makes me feel so gross after eating!  In case you cared 😉


Didn’t take any food pics today, only pics of all the new snow.

Had to pull out the snow blower again, luckily it died AFTER I finished the most important part of the driveway.  Today was the first day that I was actually really bummed I can’t go snowboarding!  Look at all that fresh powder!

And later that afternoon I found Cole waiting patiently for Grammy and Papa to get home…I am now officially chopped liver!


Had to go to the 8:30am spin class because of a dr.’s appointment and was pleasantly surprised that the teacher was my hardcore teacher subbing.

Post-workout: protein pancake and fruit 6

Went to my 30-week dr. appointment and just as she had predicted, the heart murmur was gone.  She still wants me to get the fetal cardio echo just to be safe, but it did make me feel much better.  Grabbed my favorite sandwich at Great Harvest for lunch.

Headed to the hospital to volunteer (I was filling in for a lady that filled in for me).

Snack at the hospital: 2 clementines and a Simply Fruit Roll-up 1

Dinner: 1C chili and salad  6

It started snowing again, thank goodness Dad is home now cause that means I’m off snow blowing duty!

We finally get snow, I finally get cycling shoes, the baby finally gets an outfit, and my husband’s on a website??


A snowy and very cold Monday, but that didn’t stop Cole and I from heading to the gym.  Spin class (+12pts) was tough, I don’t know if it was because I hadn’t worked out for 2 days or what, but it was rough.

Pre-workout: 1 tsp of PB and 1/2 banana  1pt

Post-workout: leftover bagel and a Muscle Milk light  11pts

One of the heaters in my parents house went out so we had to wait around until the guy came to fix it.

Lunch: leftover 1/2C Santa Fe Chicken over 1/4C rice  3pts

It turned out the guy had to go back to Salt Lake to get a part and then bring it back up.  So Cole took a nap and I did some studying/gave up 5 minutes later and read a book.  So much for getting my class done before Keller gets home!

Snacked on some dried mangos (2pts) and after Cole woke up we went down to Salt Lake. Stopped at the cutest baby store to get a gift for baby Issac and couldn’t help myself.  Bought my first things for our baby boy, 2 outfits and an Angry Birds blanket (so stinking cute!).

We also picked up some cupcakes and dinner from Chipotle to take to Andrea, Bobby, Truman, and Issac.

Dinner: chicken burrito bowl…chicken, brown rice, fajita veggies, pico, a little bit of cheese, and guac on the side…1/2 serving of chips 10pts

Dessert: 1/4 of a cupcake, 1/4 of a cookie  5pts

We had a great time hanging out with them!


Cole didn’t wake up until 8am and wanted to watch Neckflix (that’s what he calls Netflix) in my bed until 9. Got up and finally and had some breakfast while skyping with Daddy.

Breakfast: Nature’s Path GF waffle and 1TBSP peanut butter  5pts

I was feeling really tired so I decided to do some prenatal yoga (+3pts).  Usually yoga makes me feel rejuvenated.  So I don’t know if it was because it was prenatal yoga and not the Vinyasa type I’m used to, but I felt more tired after then I did before.  Like so tired I wanted to crawl back into bed and eat a cinnamon roll, but I didn’t, instead I snacked on some dried mangos (2pts) and a coke zero…or 3.

I really wanted something sweet, baked, and smothered in frosting, so in an effort to contain myself I made my WW oatmeal cookies instead.  Started with 1:

ended at 4 (8pts). 😉  So yummy!

Lunch: leftover Chipotle mixed with a little Santa Fe chicken  6pts

Tuesday is our swim and taekwondo day or otherwise known as my 100 mile drive day.  Before we left for swimming I stopped by the mailbox and opened this…

I’m officially certified, yay for me.  And as my reward, I bought myself a pair of cycling shoes.  I have been wanting some forever, but made a deal with myself I wouldn’t get any unless I took and passed my test.

Snacked on some cheese and goldfish in the car between swimming and taekwondo.  I was still exhausted and had texted Heidi that I was in no mood to cook tonight, so instead, after buying my shoes, we just hung out and talked.  I helped her make protein pancakes for her family for dinner and they turned out to be a hit.  Her 6-y-o asked if he could have them 2 days in a row cause they’re “healthy”.  When we got home I ended up making myself one for dinner along with a green smoothie (6pts).  Best dinner ever!


Cole went back to school today after having MLK day off…hooray!  We didn’t quite make it there on time, but that’s ok cause he said he wanted to be late?  After I dropped him off I headed to spin (+12pts).  My hardcore teacher was sick so we had a sub.  She was good and I had a much better workout then I did on Monday.

Post-workout: Protein pancake and green smoothie  6pts

Today was my hospital volunteer day.  Snacked on a Twizzler’s pull-n-peel, 2 Red Vines, and a chocolate covered caramel…oh yeah and 1/2 my protein bar (9pts).  The ironic thing is that I brought the Red Vines and Twizzler’s to get them out of my house so I WOULDN’T eat them…whateves.

I should have eaten the entire protein bar and not the candy cause by the time I got home I was starving.  And then I should have just had dinner, but instead ended up snacking on the following:  a few mango slices, a handful of nuts, and a cookie (8pts).

Dinner: leftover Santa Fe Chicken w/toast and multigrain chips…the chips were for Cole, but I made the mistake of having 1 and they are super delicious!  (9pts)…Cole asked if this is the last time he had to eat this…apparently I made a little too much 😉

Snack after dinner: 0

Interesting tidbit of the day…apparently my husband is on the homepage of a local nutrition shop website.  He didn’t even know, but our brother-in-law found it.  I guess what happened is they took an email that he wrote inquiring about some supplements as a testimonial.

He told me not to post it, but I was like rrrright.  And if he comes home from Afghanistan with an extra 10 pounds of muscle, I will be sending Charlie at Total Nutrition Austin a thank you note that they can use as MY testimonial!  It will read something like this…thank you for making my husband a sexy beast…think I could get a free t-shirt for that?  The website is: www.totalnutritionaustin.com.


Zoo Lights

Can’t sleep, must post

So I woke up today at 5:45am for no reason and my mind starting wondering which prevented me from being able to go back to sleep.  I’m going to pay for it later!  But what better time to post to the blog!!  Not much to report for the past couple days.  Nothing like the Houston Ice Road Truckers.  Bless their hearts!


First day back from Cali and was in desperate need of some spin.  Kicked my butt and I loved it. After class, I went up to the fitness studio to do my 50 burpees on the Bosu.  I took a video of how I do them, but who knows if it will ever make it up here, cause #1 it’s a video of a pregnant me in workout clothes doing a burpee, and #2 I really have no idea how to put it up here 😉  I knocked out 50 in 2:33 then emailed my husband to tease him that a pregnant chick beat his time.

Pre-workout: the usual banana and PB


Papa took Cole to play at an indoor playscape cause I was supposed to be studying for my CNA state test scheduled for Thursday, but the test got canceled and so I took a nap instead.  It was lovely.

Snack: nuts and cranberries mix from Trader Joe’s (so glad they come in individualized packets cause I never knew how many points I was eating of this stuff!)

Dinner: Amylu chicken burgers, 1/2 C Trader Joe’s white mac and cheese, and green beans

Headed to bed early and finished my book I was reading.


Woke up to a 4-year-old in my bed who kept telling me he was sweaty.  It wasn’t sweat!  Can I please get through one week of not having to clean up bodily functions…oh wait…no I can’t because I’m about to have a BABY!!!

Went to buns and guns class.  We were working on the gliders again and so this time I tried to be more conscience of the core work to prevent another sore muscle/gas feeling of going into labor.

Took Cole to the Rec Center after to play then we met up with Papa to have lunch at Kneader’s.  I was super hungry by the time we ate which was not such a good thing because even though I only took a picture of my tuna sandwich (which I ate half of), I failed to picture the cinnamon roll that I ate 2/3 of, some chips that I lost count of how many I ate, oh and Cole’s soup and foccacia bread which I helped myself to and ending up eating his entire piece of bread (which wasn’t like a small little sample!).  Oh well…at least it was all delicious!

We came home and took naps before going down to Salt Lake to meet up with my sister and niece and nephews to go to the Hogle Zoo Lights.  Luckily we got there when we did because by the time we left not only was it freezing cold, but it was packed with people.  Little Will told us next time he doesn’t want to come (they were a little cold by the end).

Grabbed some dinner at Corner Bakery.  Michelle and I had breakfast for dinner and it was delicious!

Then we dropped the kids off and Michelle and I went to see the movie New Year’s Eve.  No picture of the many red vines I munched on while at the movie.  It was an ok movie.  It could have been better!



These are a few of my favorite things…

It’s December holy cow…where has the year gone???  What have I accomplished this year??  I turned 30, ran my first half-marathon, oh and made a baby…finally 😉  I’m already working on my list for next year.  It’s going to be a doozie.  So the last couple days I’ve been able to participate in a few of my favorite things so I thought I’d share them with you as I go through my daily fire bites.


I finally was able to make it to the BUNS and GUNS class at the gym.  I think it’s one of my new favorite classes.  It’s 75 minutes of dynamic exercises (total body) with a Jillian Michaels style of HIT cardio mixed in between.  We used a Bosu ball and weights. For those of you who don’t know what a Bosu ball is, it’s this:

You can do tons of exercises with it using both sides.  One of my favorite exercises we did, you’ll never guess, was BURPEES on the BOSU (so hands come down on the ball part then jump your feet out, etc).  I thought they were perfect as a modified burpee that still used strength and core (cause you had to stabilize yourself on the ball), but helped me get my few extra pounds from the horizontal to vertical position a bit more gracefully!  And as my belly gets bigger, they will be a great alternative to help me finish Courtney’s 100 day burpee challenge.

Cole came with me to the gym and hung out in the kids area.  When I went to pick him up he was busy cleaning a table with a Clorox wipe.  They love him!  We headed over to the rec center so he could play with his buddies.

Lunch: Kneader’s tuna on wheat (1/2) w/fruit  9

Took Cole to Taekwondo and made the mistake of waiting too long to eat…so I ended up with these.

I have been craving them ever since Carman’s birthday post.  Dang you Carman! 😉  These were super delicious, but VERY sweet so I only had 2.

Grabbed Cafe Rio to go for Cole and Papa for dinner cause mom and I were going out.  Made #2 mistake, ordering chips and queso and still being hungry from not having had anything substantial to eat started munching on the chips.  I lost count of how many I consumed.  When we got home, I found out they had messed up the order and had given us an extra steak salad.  It turned out to be a good thing because I was able to have a couple bites of something a little good for me before mom and I left.

So every year, Nordstrom (one of my favorite things/places) has a private shopping party for people who have the Nordstrom credit card.  They serve drinks and appetizers and give bonus points to the shoppers. My grandma used to go to this, my mom goes, my sisters go, it’s just what we do.  So mom and I went and had a great time.  This was the shoe department (not sure this picture does it justice, it was packed!):

While perusing the men’s section I came across these and had to take a picture:

Spanx for men! HA!  I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.  I didn’t buy any for Keller, in case you were wondering.  I did find a really cute pair of boots for me and a spiderman shirt for Cole for xmas (shhh…don’t tell him).  All in all it was a fun night and probably the best part was the people watching!  I munched on a miniature cupcake that wasn’t worth it, a piece of bruschetta, a couple bites of meatballs, and a mini quiche.


Took Cole to school early so I could make it to Yoga (another of my favs).  After a week of spin classes, burpees galore, the buns and guns class, and the strength workout I did at home, I was looking forward to a nice relaxing yoga class to focus on stretching.  Uh yeah, apparently I got the wrong class.  This was hardcore yoga.  I was almost sweating more in this yoga class then I do during spin.  It was intense, fast, and full of strength and core work.  Don’t get me wrong, it felt great, but not what I was expecting.

Breakfast: 5

The rest of the day I spent at the hospital training as a volunteer.  The first 3 hours I spent walking all around the hospital at least 3 times touring, delivering mail, etc.  I was pooped by the time I had lunch.

Lunch: turkey burger w/green beans and a handful of sweet potato fries

Snack: mint chip ice cream (no explanation…just wanted it)

Picked up Cole from school and got ready to go to my sister Michelle’s for a Christmas party/house concert. The concert was an artist named Paul Jacobsen and he was awesome!

We took a sister picture…well we took like 10, this was my favorite one.  Michelle, Sherilynn, Me.

There was tons of food.  Appetizers galore and then mini BBQ brisket and pork sandwiches with mac and cheese for dinner.  As you can tell I stopped taking pictures.  I can tell you I only had 1 plate of food (that is after I had snacked on a few things before anyone got there).  And I can tell you that the few snacks and the plate of food made me so full I was almost as uncomfortable as I was on Thanksgiving.  Not necessarily a good thing. I really hope it’s the baby impeding on the size of my stomach and not that I’m actually eating so much that I feel like I’m going to bust open at the seams!

So there you go…a few of my favorite things the gym classes, boss balls, Nordstrom, yoga, my sister’s, parties, and yummy food!
