Catchin’ Up

I can’t believe it’s been a whole week since I’ve posted.  The day after my last post, Cole came down with a 24-hr bug.  We spent from 1am-5am barfing, changing towels, changing jammies, trying to sleep, barfing, etc.  It was a long night.  Needless to say we spent Wednesday hanging out, watching movies, and napping.  I thought we were in the clear Thursday until he barfed again Thursday morning.  Awesome…so another day at home just chillin’.  I was starting to get a little stir crazy since I hadn’t worked out since Monday so I hopped on the treadmill while Cole napped, did some intervals and a small weight workout.  Cole was finally starting to feel better and wanted, of all things, Cafe Rio, how could I say no?  Friday Cole was back at school for his last day before Christmas vacation which means I got to go to spin class YAY!!  After spin I headed over to Cole’s school, they had a small Christmas program that we video’d for daddy.  They had some snacks, that turned out to be my lunch.

We had another date night, Cole and I, we’ve been having a lot of those lately 😉 ordered some pizza and watched Elf.  I only had 1 piece of pizza and it still kind of made me sick.

 Saturday I made a special breakfast of German pancakes.  I made them “weight watchers style” so that they were only 5 points per serving instead of 8!

After breakfast we went to get the Christmas tree…we picked it out and then spent the rest of the day putting on the lights and decorating it.

At night we went down to the cemetery where my grandparents are buried.  They have this thing called the luminary every year where they place candles in bags all over the cemetery.  Grabbed some dinner at an Indian Restaurant, it was delicious.

Sunday mom, Cole, and I started our trip to California.  It was a quick uncle/dentist visit.   We drove there Sunday, got out teeth cleaned Monday, drove home Tuesday.  The best part was finding Freddy’s Frozen Cutard, which we used to go to in Texas and has delicious steak burgers and fries.

Monday night my cousins and I went to see Sherlock Holmes.  It was a 7:45pm movie but by the time it was over I felt like it had been a 10pm movie.  I’m getting old!  Tuesday we stopped in Vegas on the way home for some shopping and Trader Joe’s.  All in all it was a productive trip.  Glad to be out of the car!  It also opened my eyes to the fact that there will be no car traveling when Keller gets home.  We had been thinking about a road trip, but being that I will most likely be significantly bigger by the time he gets home, and that it was already uncomfortable now, it won’t happen!  Besides some Freddy’s, I tried to keep in check with my eating on the trip.  We brought veggies, fruit, nuts, and protein bars to snack on.  Here’s a few pics of my meals:

Snacked on some nuts, a Balance bar, apple, cheese, handsome peanut butter crackers before we finally had another meal back in Utah at Cafe Rio.

So I’d ben craving a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for 3 days…so I finally gave in and it was totally worth it!

And now you’re caught up on my life…you didn’t miss much 😉

Sore after a workout…go workout again!

So that little lunge/squat workout I did yesterday must have worked because literally I could barely walk this morning.  Like.. lower yourself on the toilet with your arms…hurting.  And it’s not even the day after the day after…that’s usually when it hurts the most.  Oh joy for tomorrow!  But what I’ve always been told by my old trainer, my husband, and experienced for myself is that you’ve got to workout that latic acid that is the cause of the soreness in your muscles.  So I started today off with an hour spin class +12.  It wasn’t my best class, my legs were definitely tired and I took it a little easier, but it definitely helped work out some of that soreness.  Now I just need to do some yoga.

Cole and I were invited over for dinner at a friend’s house tonight so with that in mind I tried to save a few extra points for the unexpected.

I spent most of the day just getting things organized and taking care of some stuff for Keller.  My dad who had knee surgery and has been cooped up in the house for the last 3 weeks really wanted to go see a movie, so we went to see Tower Heist.  I’m taking advantage of the fact that I CAN go see a movie at 2pm in the afternoon while Cole is in school, because in 4 months that will no longer be possible!

Dinner: Papa John’s Tuscan six cheese pizza 2 slices and then the rest of Cole’s 2nd piece and 2 pieces of the cinnapie…ready for this…32 frickin points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Thank heavens I had been semi conservative with my points throughout the day!

Decisions, decisions

I have been thinking a lot about decisions lately.  I don’t know why now, I make decisions everyday, but for some reason I’ve been more aware of them lately.  This week I decided lots to things.  Whether or not I was going to get out of bed, whether or not to go to the gym, what to eat, what not to eat, etc etc everyday we make tons of decisions.  And although most of our decisions may seem small and insignificant, every decision has an outcome.  Speaking of what I decided to eat, here are my Fire Bites from this weekend:

Friday-

Yay another spin class day, this time I had a super fantastic gel padded seat.  I don’t know if it’s the pregnancy or what, but spin has been super uncomfortable lately.  BUT I’m glad I decided to go to this class, cause I felt great the rest of the day.

Pre-workout: toast and pb  5pts

Lunch: Chicken gyro, super delicious!  8pts

Snack: Chobani and cashew clusters  5pts

Dinner: 2 slices garden delight Papa John’s pizza and a green smoothie  10pts

SATURDAY-

Breakfast: eggo and pb  5pts

My cousin’s son was getting baptized so we headed down to Provo in a winter snow storm.  Cole was super excited to see the baptism.  He kept asking if he could get baptized.  Only 4 and already he’s made an important decision!! 😉

After the baptism we headed to the hospital to see my dad.  Stopped by the Cheesecake Factory for some lunch on the way. We were starving…that is not good when going to the Cheesecake Factory.  Mom ordered these before we got our meals…not a good idea when you’re hungry and lacking will power.  I decided I would eat them and that I would dip them in ranch!  This was of course after some bread and butter.

Then my lunch came…I ate almost half of my Pasta Da Vinci (the lunch portion size not the size shown below), it’s penne pasta with mushrooms and chicken in a red wine sauce.  And then I ate half of one of Cole’s sliders…I decided next time I go to Cheesecake Factory I will share just the sliders with him because I was seriously stuffed after all that food!!

After my 20 pt or so lunch we headed to the hospital to see my dad.  He’s having a harder time recovering from this knee replacement surgery than he did the last time and it’s really bothering him.  He was supposed to go home Saturday, but had a fever and low red blood cell count so they kept him another night.  Sherilynn, Cole, and I headed up the canyon and I crashed for a nap.  I made Cole have “quiet time” but it wasn’t very quiet when he was knocking on the wall (we share a wall between our rooms) every so often to see if I was awake.

That evening, my other sister Michelle invited me to a women’s “salon” as they called it, put on by the Mormon Women Project. Here is what the website says about the Mormon Women Project:

It was very cool and seemed to focus on the topic of decisions. The keynote speaker Emma Lou Thayne, author and poet, wrote the lyrics to the hymn “Where Can I Turn for Peace?“.  Click on the link to hear the MoTab (Mormon Tabernacle Choir) singing this beautiful hymn.  We had the incredible opportunity to hear it sung by Metropolitan Opera singer Ariel Bybee. What was also cool was the story behind the lyrics to the song and the trials Emma Lou was facing at the time.  I came away from that conference feeling like every woman is in control of her own life by the decisions we make every day.  Some decisions are forced upon us, some are easier made than others, but it’s the decisions we make and the process we take making those decisions which shape our lives.

And of course they had some lovely hors d’oeuvres.

SUNDAY-

Breakfast: cereal 5pts

Snacks at church: for some reason I am always starving at church!  mini pack of craisins 3pts, 2 pb crackers 2pts

Lunch:  leftover from the Bombay House, curry chicken over rice  12pts?

I tried to get Cole to take a nap mostly cause I really wanted to, but it was a no go.  Instead we drove down to the hospital to see my dad again and brought some dinner from one of my favorite Salt Lake restaurants Trio.  I brought a bunch of things and we all shared.

Dinner:  flatbread w/white bean and pesto spread

Mixed green salad with spring mix, grapes, walnuts, gorgonzola (tried not to eat any) and balsamic dressing.

Then I got a chicken breast and a steak dinner that had veggies and potatoes and I ended up eating most of the steak with my salad.

Cole needed a treat after his dinner and so he and grammy went in search of one.  They came back with some Twizzlers Nibs for me, which I love.  I started with half the package and then eventually ate the whole thing!

All in all a very productive and insightful weekend.  I could go on and on about the decision topic, but I think you get my drift.  Tomorrow I start week long classes and by Friday I’ll be a CNA (certified nursing assistant).  It’s one of the things I have to complete in order to apply for Nursing school.  I’m excited and nervous all at the same time.  I’m just glad I have you all to be accountable to so that I don’t back out of my decision! 😉
