Just Do It Even If You Suck

“Do Your Best and Forget the Rest”

The title of my post is Tony Horton’s (of P90X2) favorite saying.  I’ve had a couple friends texting me this week upset with themselves for bad food choices, or lack of motivation to exercise, etc.  We’ve all gone through this.  It happens at the beginning of our process, the intimidation of what seems like a huge feat to overcome.  It happens in the middle with plateaus or falling off the wagon.  And it happens at the end when trying to maintain and maybe we fall back into our old habits because we’ve become a little too relaxed in our efforts.  No matter where you are in your process just “do your best and forget the rest.”  Get on that scale on weigh-in day, own it, and move on!  Give yourself more credit because you are stronger than you think!

Speaking of P90X2…I started Phase 2 on Monday and holy crap, this crap is hard!  So after attempting to do pull-ups on my husband’s TRX bands for almost the entire first video, I got on my computer and ordered a pull-up bar and assist band.  I figure I’ve committed to completing this program, I better do it correctly!

Monday Fire Bites: 1 tsp PB (1), Body by Vi green greek smoothie (random sideways picture, too lazy to fix it) (3), chicken and raspberry salad (5), balance bar (5), Protein Pancake and another BBV smoothie (7).

Tuesday I spent most of the day working on favors for my friend Taryn’s baby shower (pic in the bottom right hand corner).  I got the idea off Pinterest, but personalized it for Taryn.  She grew up in Chicago and loves Garrett’s popcorn, so since I don’t live in Chicago I got the next best thing, Costco’s version!!  It’s cheese popcorn mixed with caramel popcorn…gross you say???  TRY IT…only then will you be a believer!!

Tuesday FB’s: 1/2 banana and 1tsp PB (1), Body by Vi green greek smoothie (3), turkey and cheese melt w/veggies and FF ranch dip (8), steak fajita, 6 chips, guac, fruit, and a jicama, cucumber, mango salad (10 guesstimate), 1/2 tres leeches cake and 1/2 a homemade churro (6?)

Workout: Plyocide

Woke up Wednesday with a really sore back.  During my warm-up Tuesday in Plyocide I tweaked it when doing a twist move.  So I was kind of concerned about going to yoga, not sure if it would hurt or help.  I decided to go and just be really careful in the poses.  I felt really good during the class and my teacher told me to put ice on it as soon as I got home because the muscles would be inflamed from all the blood pumping during the class.  I’m not sure if it was the yoga or the ice or a combo of the both, but the pain was totally gone by the end of the day!!

Workout: 75min Hot Yoga

Nothing too exciting happened today, I took a picture of my home gym that I’ve turned my parents family room into.  I got my pull-up bar and assist band today, however not only can I not find a doorway in my parents house that it will work in, my mother will not let me even if I could find one.  I think her specific words were…”over my dead body”…hello mother, phase 2 is only 3 more weeks and I need it!!  Waaaaaa…maybe I’ll have to do that video when she’s not home 😉  I also found out today that we finally have a house!  I’m very excited to get back to Austin, but sad to leave my family and friends in Utah.  It will be nice to have my own space again and feel like a grown-up!

I want to eat my feelings!

I’ve been waiting for my husband to come home all week.  He was supposed to be able to come home yesterday night and then again tonight, but no such luck boo hoo.  Hence my title…I want to eat my feelings.  The problem is nothing sounds good enough for me to eat!

Tuesday:

Had a much better day Tuesday…

Breakfast: Protein Pancake and fruit- 6pts

Keller was really bummed when he found out he couldn’t come home so we decided to drive out to Draper to meet him for lunch.  It was nice to spend some time with him.

Lunch: Chipotle burrito bowl- chicken, brown rice, veggies, pico, lettuce, guac, about 8 chips, and 4 bites of a bunt cake- 12pts

Can I just say…I love Chipotle!  It is our “go to” place to eat out (cause we eat out a lot if you haven’t noticed).  It’s awesome to have a yummy place to eat that’s healthy and easy to calculate my WW points! Ok off my soap box.

Snack: 5 Red Vines- 4pts

Dinner: parmesan crusted halibut and roasted veggies- 6pts? guesstimate

Snack: apple and PB- 3pts (no pic)

Total daily points=31

Wednesday:

Had a very productive morning.  Took Cole to school then came home and did a workout.  I started out with 10 minutes of inclines on the treadmill.  Then I did a TRX band upper body workout of recline rows, Y-raises, chest press, bicep curls, triceps extension- 10 reps, 4 sets.  Ended with another 15 minutes of inclines.  +5pts

Breakfast: Protein Pancake and Green Greek Smoothie- 7pts

I was able to go get a massage today, but I’m not sure I would really call it a massage.  It was like being worked on by Torry  (Lexy’s husband) and calling it a massage.  I went in because my back was killing me and spent the hour on my back while she worked on my Psoas (pronounced: so as).  Pretty much she pushed and prodded me, not relaxing at all, but I do have to say I did feel a little better.

Lunch: turkey and avocado on sourdough toast- 7pts

Snack: Mint Cookie Balance Bar- 5pts

Dinner: flank steak, strawberry spinach salad, snap peas- 3pts

Snack: Red Vines- 4pts (see pic above in case you forgot what red vines look like)

Weekend Recap

Black FRIDAY:

So we used to go out on Black Friday’s and shop and then I think we all got smart and thought why the heck would we want to put ourselves through all that just to save a few bucks (unless of course there was something really cool for really cheap), but my sister who was going to be in Idaho asked my mom and I to go to Costco for her to check out the sales on TV’s.  So we did.  And if I was going to go anywhere on Black Friday, I would want to go to Costco.  We got there 5 min before they opened (at 9am) and this was the line:

but when they opened the doors we were inside in less than a minute.  Turns out they didn’t have the TV my sister wanted, but it wasn’t all for nothing.  I found a Garmin watch I have been wanting for $75 off.  Merry Chirstmas to me!

(update: I tried to set-up the watch tonight and the bezels don’t work…of course they don’t!)

After the madness we stopped and grabbed breakfast at Einstein’s.  I freaking love bagels, just a PS in case you were wondering!

Breakfast: asiago cheese bagel w/RF CC and oj 13

Met up with Sherilynn and Cole at an indoor playground in Park City and then she wanted to go to Best Buy. She wanted to buy my mom a Wii, but the salesman talked her into an Xbox Kinect.  Then I was going to buy it and just take it with me when we left.  Then we found out for everything we wanted it was going to be like $500…uh yeah no.  Unfortunately for me, Cole was thirsty when we got there so I grabbed a water from the fridge with the sodas, he had one sip, so when we were finally ready to leave I remembered I had to pay for it.  It took me 20 min to buy 1 stupid bottle of water!  While I was waiting in line I snacked on a Twizzler’s pull-n-peel and red vines that I had in my purse from the movie, I learned it’s not a good idea for me to carry those around in my purse!  Came home and had leftovers for lunch.

I made Cole take a nap, because I really wanted to!  The rest of the day was lounging and snacking.  I stopped taking pictures (I think my phone actually died, or at least that’s what I’m telling myself).

SATURDAY:

Woke up ready for a workout.  I didn’t get one in on Friday (besides my timed burpees, which took all of 2min).  But of course as soon as I was about to get on the treadmill, Keller called.  I knew it would be awhile until I was able to get on so I grabbed some breakfast.

Breakfast: Honey Whole Wheat bagel w/RF CC and OJ  12

Then finally got on the treadmill and did my burpee, running intervals. 5 min run/5 burpees (doesn’t seem like a lot, but what I was trying to do was work on my form…I can’t go all the way down to the ground obviously so instead I’m doing push-ups…pathetic push-ups, but push-ups none the less!).  No pic, but drank the rest of my Muscle Milk from Wednesday post workout.

Mom, Cole, Sherilynn, and I headed down to Fashion Place to get some shopping/returning done.  We grabbed lunch at Cheesecake Factory.  I was dying to try the Skinnylicious mexican lettuce wraps that Carman and Lexy had already tried.  They were soooo good.  And with help from an app my sister told me about myfitnesspal, we figured out the wraps were 1 point per wrap!!!

So I didn’t feel guilty having bites of Cole’s pasta w/parmesan, a couple french fries, and bread.  After lunch we did some shopping and then headed back home.  While we were shopping Lexy sent me a picture of a t-shirt she saw…I laughed out loud!

We had to stop at Wal-Mart cause Cole needed a movie! He picked out Cars 2.  We came home and everyone watched it.  I slaved over dinner (I threw a turkey and spinach lasagna that I bought at Costco in the oven).  It was a hit, everyone loved it!  8 points/serving (lots of protein!).

 

SUNDAY:

I’m volunteering at the hospital here in Park City and today was my orientation.  It was basically just a tour of the hospital and signing up for our first days of training.  Not too exciting.

Breakfast: 1 egg, 2 whites, half bagel, and OJ  11

Came home and got organized a little.  Was starving by the time mom and Cole got home from church.  I couldn’t even make myself lunch I had to eat RIGHT NOW, so I popped a roll in the microwave and added butter and jam.  Oh so good.  Followed it up with a Chobani.

Cole wanted to have quiet time in his room cause he wanted to watch Cars 2 by himself.  It was funny!  We didn’t do much else the rest of the day just a movie, played some games, and snacked.

Mom made a delicious refrigerator soup…that’s what I call soup when you put everything in your fridge that you want to get rid of in a soup.  Basically it was a little but of chicken, turkey, potatoes, green beans, carrots, and who knows what else!  But it was delish!

We bought the Yoplait Smoothies at Costco for my dad, he wanted to have things that were healthy but easy for him to make and eat.  I had remembered them from one of the seasons of the Biggest Loser.  Oh my goodness they are so freaking good!!  3 points per serving (the Costco size has 2 servings per bag, the grocery stores probably just have 1).  Like oh my gosh where have these been all my life good!

MONDAY:

Love Mondays cause I get to go to SPIN!!  Today was a hard class.  She really pushed us or I really pushed myself, probably a bit of both.  Wanted to burn off some of the weekend crap.

Pre-workout: 3

Came home and helped clean my half of the house ;).  Got done and read an email from my hubby.  I’ve been missing him a lot.  We’ve been away from each other a lot, but never over the holidays and it seems harder.  I was complaining to him about how my body was hurting from all the frickin burpees.  He gave me some good advice and some unwanted advice.  I must have been especially emotional today, because a few little innocent sentences sent me into a self-loathing depression that made me want to go eat cookies!  Men just need to understand at all times what exact mood their wives are in so they know exactly how to respond and what to say!  Is that so much to ask?

Then Carman texts this picture of one of our heroes Jennifer Nicole Lee and that just did me in.  So after an hour texting session with the FLF girls and crying at the sandwich place, I felt better.

Lunch: veggie sandwich on Great Harvest bread (and sample cinnaburst bread)  10

Went to get my haircut and decided I needed some bangs back in my life.  I’ll most likely regret this decision!

Snacked on an apple on the way to pick up Cole.  Came home and my dad wanted to got to this BBQ place that he has been hearing about from his physical therapist.  It’s in Heber which is about a 20-25 minute drive from Park City.  When we got there, it was closed.  Even though their website said they’re open Monday-Sunday…they weren’t.  So we ended up driving back to Park City and eating at Squatter’s, a pub style restaurant.

Dinner: 3/4 turkey burger, about 10 sweet potato fries  12

And that’s all folks!  I’m excited for the next 4 weeks, my family decided to have a little weight-loss competition.  I’m a little bummed I can’t really participate, but instead of losing weight my goal is to maintain my current weight for 4 weeks.  I’m hoping it won’t be as hard as it might sound and don’t go all “pregnant women shouldn’t be trying to not gain weight”on me…trust me I’ve already gained more than necessary.  I can stand to take a month off of gaining!  Wish me luck!

Good morning chocolate

Happy Turkey Day!!

Oh Thanksgiving how I love thee!  There is so much I am grateful for.  I’ll just list the important ones…my hubby, I missed him so much today.  This was the first Thanksgiving we haven’t spent together since we’ve been married.  My baby boy…let’s make that 2 baby boys.  My family (near and far), friends, health, husband’s job, and delicious leftover rolls ;).

WEDNESDAY Fire Bites:

Started the day off right with spin class +12

Post-spin: the store I was at didn’t have Muscle Milk Light so I drank just over half of this  4, and a green smoothie

I had to go down to Salt Lake to take my final test for my CNA class so that I could be passed off to take my state test.  Then Cole and I went to see Arthur Christmas.

After the movie we met up with Aunt Sasa at our fav El Chubasco for our some shrimp tacos…but they were all out.  So we had to improvise.  It wasn’t the same.

Dinner: chicken tacos, 2 corn tortillas, pico, 1/3 of Cole’s quesadilla, and chips  13

TURKEY DAY Fire Bites:

Cole and I woke up early…excited for the holiday.  I made us some mint hot chocolate.

Was planning on going to the gym for a strength class at 9:30a, but decided it was more important to have a nice breakfast with my family.  Plus I know Keller would probably call to Skype while I was in the class.  We decided not to go with the traditional homemade buttermilk waffles and instead turned the healthy Protein Pancakes into Protein Waffles.  Soooo delicious and nutritious!

Went to get on the treadmill and do my burpee/running intervals and of course I literally press start on the treadmill and Keller calls.  So I jumped off and we got to Skype.  He was able to have a Thanksgiving meal and have the day off.  It was nice to be able to chat.  Didn’t have enough time to do my full workout so instead I knocked out my 47 burpees (missed yesterday cause I tried to do them after spin and my legs were jello). Then we went to the movies to see Hugo, great cinematography, but SLOW AND BORING as all get out.  That’s my personal opinion and the opinion of the 4-y-o who was bouncing from one lap to another cause he was so bored.  Snacked on some popcorn and 3 red vines.

Came home and had some carrots and light ranch dip while I started the 2 batches of rolls.  Our family was invited over to a friend’s of my parents for Thanksgiving dinner so all we were in charge of making was rolls, salad, and veggies.  My job was the rolls.  They turned out perfect!

We started off dinner with some delicious soup topped with apples and bleu cheese.

There were also bacon wrapped water chestnuts and shrimp for appetizers.  I was so hungry by the time we got there that I lost count of how any I ate!

And then the delicious dinner was served.  This was the only Thanksgiving I can remember that I only had one plate full of food.  I was seriously sooo stuffed, I was actually mad.  I have never only had 1 roll, that’s like so wrong!  Good thing there were leftovers so I can way some more tomorrow.

We played such a fun game after dinner.  Everyone wrote down a name of a person (famous or not) and put it in a basket. When all the names were in, someone reads off all the names twice.  Then you start going around the circle and you try to guess who wrote down which name.  The last person to be guessed wins.

And of course had to end the night with pie.  I’m not a huge pie lover, unless it’s french apple, but there was no french apple for me.  Probably a good thing!  So instead I had about 1/2 cup of the delicious cherry chocolate ice cream that I have grown to love so much over the last week and 2 bites of a very chocolately pie!

All in all a fabulous Thanksgiving.  So Happy Thanksgiving to all and to all a good night

Clinicals, Yellow belts, Elvis tattoo’s, and Breaking Dawn

(WARNING: this is a long post…sorry I’m a procrastinator!)

Summing up the rest of the crazy week last week.  I finished up my last 2 classes and experienced my first and then last clinical.  What an experience!  I used to volunteer in a nursing home when I was growing up.  My mom and I were in a charity organization that went to the nursing home at least once a month.  Going back and working in one as a CNA is a WHOLE different experience.  I don’t know how else to describe it other than I was humbled.  As I was giving one lady a shower, she said to me, “I bet they don’t pay you enough to be here giving me a shower,” I laughed and said, “Actually I paid to be here giving you a shower”.  She thought that was the funniest thing she’d ever heard!  Then she tugged on her stomach and said “How do I get rid of this…I’ve tried sit-ups, maybe I should get a tummy tuck.” She’s like 75, I told her to have her daughter by her some spanx.  She liked that idea.  I interacted with a lot of funny personalities.  There was this married couple that shared a room and the wife kept ringing her call button.  The first time it was because she wanted something that would help her die, and the next time was because she wanted a new husband.  The third time was the husband wanting ear plugs.  Not all of my encounters were funny though.  Some were sad.  Life truly is full circle.  When we’re old we become childlike again, dependent on others to take care of us, however, it’s much harder.  Unlike children, the elderly have lived full lives and have knowledge of what they used to be able to do that they now cannot without help.  There’s a loss of dignity and self actualization.  For me it really put things into perspective in terms of the time wasted on worrying about silly things, letting things bother me that don’t really matter, or being unhappy when there is so much to be grateful for.  Life is short.

FIRE BITES THURS-MON

THURSDAY:

I had the nazi teacher again…I’m starting to like her more and more.  I feel like I get a better workout with her cause she’s so strict on watching your form.  And I feel like it makes me better in my other classes when she’s not the teacher cause I’m always thinking of the things she says.

Breakfast: 5

Cole and I had a day out to play.  We grabbed some lunch at Great Harvest.

Lunch: taste tester of some cinnamon bread, 1/2 veggie sandwich and 3/4 of Cole’s snicker doodle 14pts

Snack: orange and pretzels 3pts

Dinner: Stopped by Whole Foods after Taekwondo cause I’ve been craving chicken dumplings and cucumber/avocado sushi (brown rice) and some shrimp (had 4 of the sushi, 5 dumplings and about 2OZ shrimp) 9pts

FRIDAY

My first clinical day…

Breakfast: Kashi whole wheat frozen waffle and peanut butter sandwich  7pts

Snack: Balance Bar 5pts (no pic)

Lunch: here’s a pic of everything I brought, I ended up eating the other half of my veggie sandwich from Thursday and some carrots  7pts

Snack: pretzels  3pts

Cole had testing to advance to the next Taekwondo belt.  He was awesome and even got a medal from his teacher for being so quick to advance.

He chopped that board in half with his bare hand…watch out Jackie Chan!

We celebrated at Cafe Rio with friends after.

Dinner: 1/2 steak salad, chips and queso, and a mint limeade  21pts

Dessert: needed something sweet so I had some Mango sorbet and 1/2C of some delicious cherry chocolate ice cream  6pts

SATURDAY:

Clinical Day 2…exhaustion sets in.

I was checking under activities on WW and I found elder care…who knew?…so for 3 hrs, I got +14 activity points (even though my shifts were 8hrs, I guesstimated that for about 3 I was walking patients back and forth and physically being active with them)…I knew there was a reason I was sooo tired after each shift.  It’s hard work!

Breakfast: Nature’s Path Flax Plus  4pts (no pic)

Snack: Balance Bar and apple 5pts (no pic)

Lunch: pb&j sandwich and carrots 8pts

I had to ask one of the worker’s passing out the food if I could take a picture of her tattoo…this is for my father-in-law who is an Elvis impersonator…Randy, I think you should totally get one of these!

Snack: more Trader Joe’s pretzels 3pts

Snack: Mom bought a sticky bun at Great Harvest and put it in front of me…big mistake…9pts (no pic)

Dinner: 1.5 slice of pizza from Maxwell’s and shared a strawberry spinach salad w/mom and dad 10pts (no pic)

SUNDAY:

Breakfast: the usual  5pts

Snack at church: leftover pretzels and some nerds from the librarian’s candy stash  3pts

Lunch: Cole and I finished off my Cafe Rio salad from Friday  7pts

Finally got a much need nap!

Snack: Chobani  3pts, while making carmel to put on top of a cake my mom made

Dinner:  My sister and brother-in-law made us dinner…it was sooo good…steak, veggies w/dip, bread, fruit  10pts

Snack:  while watching the last Harry Potter w/the fam, 1 powdered doughnut, 1 licorice, 1/3C of ice cream  6pts

MONDAY:

Good morning…why don’t you have some snow!?!

Snack: Leftover sushi 4 pieces, 1 dumpling and then some lavash w/hummus  9pts

Finally got to go see Breaking Dawn with my mom and sisters…this was the lobby when I walked in (that’s my sister…and no one else)

And this was the theater 30 min. early (that’s my mom…and no one else!)…a total of probably 10 people were there but the time the movie started…I love Park City!

Snack: 2 handfuls of popcorn, 1 pull-n-peel, 3 red vines, 2 WW oatmeal cookies  13pts
