green belt testing

Skiing, Rope Climbing, Hunger Games and Green Belts.

Thursday…

Aunt Sasa offered to take Cole skiing today, probably for the last time this season, so we got up and had to go rent some ski’s.

Breakfast: sourdough toast w/pb and jam

Keller and I dropped Sasa and Cole off at the Canyon’s and then headed to the gym.  Keller put me through an upper body circuit:

Pyramid supersets (pyramid means 10 reps, then 9, then 8, etc all the way down and then all the way back up-I only went down, superset means 2 exercises done together one after the other)

1st superset pyramid

-incline bench press 20lb DB’s

-seated curls to overhead press 15lb DB’s

random exercise in the middle of my workout…my hamstrings were really tight so I took a 40lb barbell and did 20 straight leg deadlifts

2nd superset pyramid

-standing cable flys 20lb

-1 min rope pull (a really cool machine I had never done before…great for cardio or strength cause you can adjust the resistance) here’s a pic…

Came home and made my usual.

Cole had the best time skiing with Sasa…it was a beautiful day and super warm, so warm in fact that their coats were off before they even got off the first chairlift.

The rest of the day pretty much went like this…sit on the couch and watch tv for 3 hours, taekwondo, dinner, back on the couch, and then bed.

Snack while chillin’ on the couch: 1/4C starburst jelly beans (we had to start portioning them out in serving sizes after Sherilynn and I ate an entire bag in one night last week)

Dinner: chicken gyros click HERE for the recipe, the only thing I changed is we used rotisserie chicken and I added cucumbers

My mom bought my dad the best pie for his birthday last night and luckily there were leftovers to enjoy again!

Friday…

Busy day!  Started out with my last Friday spin class :(

Pre-workout: 1tsp PB and 1/2 banana

My teacher was surprised to hear that I wouldn’t be joining his class for awhile…I will definitely miss his class!

Usual post-workout: protein pancake and green greek smoothie

And since today was the opening day of the HUNGER GAMES and since none of us in this house have a JOB (currently)…we went to see the 1pm showing.

LOVED IT!  I read the books a long time ago which was good because I wasn’t thinking about all the stuff they changed.  No pics, but I snacked on 2 handfuls of popcorn, about 10 jelly beans, 1 licorice, and 1/2 a balance bar.  After the movie we had to go pick up Cole from school early and head down to Salt Lake for taekwondo testing.  Snacked on an apple and some nuts during testing.

So proud of Cole for passing his test and earning his green belt!  And cousin Justice earned his orange belt and received another medal!  We went to Five Guys Burgers to celebrate afterwards.  I should have split my burger and given half to Keller because I am now sick.  I even thought about it while I was eating it, how I was full and didn’t really want anymore, but my eyes just kept saying “you are really hungry eat it”.  So I did!  And then Menchie’s froyo was right next store so of course we had to go there.  The kids loved making their own yogurts with toppings.  Uncle Keller was throwing away the trash and almost threw away Will…jk!

This was my “I’m so full I feel like I’m going to barf so please don’t take a picture of me” look, he did not get the hint!

Thoughts on pregnancy and exercise…and a delivery from Daddy!

Nothing too exciting happening here.  Just going through the motions until Daddy gets home in 14 days!!!!  My baby is going to come out riding a spin bike and doing burpees on a Bosu ball, but I am so grateful that I feel good enough to keep up with my workouts.  I feel like it makes all the difference in the world!  When the doctor heard the murmur in the baby’s heart beat, I was worried it might have something to do with the amount and type of exercise I do, but my doctor quickly reassured me it did not.  My friend Heidi and I were talking tonight about it because my mom thinks I exercise too much and makes comments about it not being good for me.  Heidi said that her mom said the same thing to her and we wondered if it was a generational thing.  Everything you read now about exercise during pregnancy only lists multiple benefits that come of it, as long as the woman is healthy, was already doing some sort of physical activity before pregnancy (or begins a new routine slowly), and isn’t high risk or experiencing any complications.  Before I was pregnant with Cole, I hadn’t been exercising at all, so I started with just walking on the treadmill every day.  I was able to build up to walking for longer, faster, and even add inclines, but it was gradual.  This time is much different and it feels great!

Wednesday Fire Bites:

Pre-spin: while skyping with Daddy

Post- spin: Protein Pancake and Green Smoothie

Snacks while volunteering at the hospital:

Disappointing snack after volunteering: so the hospital I volunteer for is almost famous for their food.  The Chef they have used to be the executive chef for Bill Gates.  Everything I have tried so far has been sooo good and always really healthy.  I hadn’t tried their pizzas yet which I always hear people raving about.  I got the tomato and chicken pizza to take home, had a quarter and was very disappointed.  It lacked serious flavor, which was fine, cause then I didn’t end up eating the whole thing!

Got a major headache and wasn’t really hungry for dinner.  Since I’m pregnant and can’t take Excedrin (which I’m usually addicted to), I put some of my mom’s peppermint oil on my temples and at the base of my head.  Took about an hour, but it finally started going away.  Eventually ate this for dinner:

Pre-buns and guns class: see Wednesday…same

Awesome class today, we used weights and a Bosu ball.  Lots of dynamic exercises (meaning exercises that use lower body and upper body at the same time, ex, a squat with an overhead press).  The teacher also usually does ab work on the floor at the end of class which I usually leave for, but this time she did it standing up.  So lots of side crunches and things that I could participate in.  Love, love, love this class!

Post-B&G:  again, see Wednesday

The boys had skiing today and my mom really wanted to try this restaurant that is right at the ski resort where we drop them off.  So my mom, dad, and I had lunch at The Farm.

Lunch: Chicken sandwich on ciabatta w/yellow peppers, caramelized onions, sun dried tomatoes, and a kalamata olive cream cheese (which I asked for on the side afraid I wouldn’t like it, but it turned out to absolutely MAKE the sandwich!) and a side salad

After skiing we hustled home, changed, and headed down to salt lake to take back the ski’s, drop J off at Taekwondo and Cole and I headed to a birthday party.  The party was at a bouncy house which they don’t have a lot of here in Utah as compared to Texas.  Cole had a blast!!

The mom of the birthday boy, Andrea, we used to work together at the radio station.  She’s holding her brand new addition to their family, Issac.  Such a cutie!

They had pizza, salad, cake and ice cream at the party, but luckily I wasn’t really hungry so instead I had 1/2 my protein bar on the way home.  And then of course when I got home I was starving, so I had another bowl of my leftover Chicken Enchilada Veggie Soup.

And then had some delicious dried mangos and 1/2 a cookie:

Pre-spin: see Wed and Thurs

Post-spin: see Wed and Thurs

I was really tired today and ended taking a nap at like 12:30.  When I woke up I grabbed a snack and headed to the outlets to try and find some jeans.

Snack: Trader Joe’s nuts and cranberries

No luck!  Picked up Cole and we headed to Taekwondo, then out to dinner to Bombay House with Heidi and her family.  I love that restaurant!

Dinner: shared a few different dishes, chicken tikka masala, shrimp coconut curry, tandoori chicken and some naan.

Little Ezra really wanted dessert after dinner, so I told him I would make him cookies.  We went back to Heidi’s and the kids played and the adults talked and made cookies.  Cyndi’s REAL cookies were requested instead of the WW ones.  They turned out delicious.  It was a fun night!

Came home and found a surprise.  Isn’t Daddy sweet!

putting Cole to work

A new year, a new trimester, and a new title?

Happy New Year…a week late I know.  I’ve been in hibernation for the past week studying for my state CNA exam.  I took both the skills and written parts today.  In the skills part you have to demonstrate vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure) and then a set of 5 CNA skills.  The written part is 100 multiple choice questions.  Unfortunately, they don’t give you your results right away, they mail them to you.  I’m pretty sure I passed both parts so as of next week I’m going to start signing my name:

Cyndi Hinson C.N.A. (ps I’m totally joking!)

It does feel good to have that done and out of the way.  Now onto my other 9 prerequisites…ugh.  I’m hoping to get 2 or 3 done before the baby comes…ha…I know…like that’s going to happen when my husband is coming home in 22 days and I’m now in the 3rd trimester.  I’m aiming high though.

I know you don’t want to see a week of food pictures, nor do I want to sit here and post them all so I’ll sum the week up with a few highlights.  I felt really good this week.  The crap is out of the house and I’m back on track.  Cole offered to help during the New Year’s Eve clean-up party!

There’s nothing like a clean house and a crap free kitchen to start the New Year off right.

I did spin Monday and Wednesday and then the Buns and Guns class on Thursday.  I received a very nice compliment from one of my spin teachers who was amazed that I’m due in March and still going to spin.  At Buns and Guns I was feeling really good and probably did more than I should have but was able to do almost the entire class (some modified moves).  And then one of my moms friends thought I was due in May (not March) and told me I looked great.  So I had a nice boost in self-esteem this week.  On an unrelated, but still important note, I noticed that on the 2 days I didn’t work out, Tuesday and today, I was more tired throughout the day as compared to the other days.  I think next week I’ll add in some yoga on my days off just to help ease the soreness and increase my energy levels.

My food this week was pretty consistent.  On the days I worked out I had a banana and peanut butter or almond butter for a pre-workout and then a protein pancake and green smoothie after my workouts.

On the days I didn’t workout, breakfast was a Nature’s Path gluten-free waffle with peanut butter and a banana.

Snacks consisted of pretzels, cheese, Trader Joe’s nuts and cranberries, and Balance Bars.

On Monday mom made a delicious healthy dinner that was much needed!  Chicken, caprese style salad, grilled veggies, and orzo.

My after dinner snack were these almond butter cookies from Trader Joe’s that were sooooo good!

Tuesday after Buns and Guns Cole and I went to the Rec Center and then he begged me to go to Kneader’s for lunch.  He loves their chicken noodle soup (cause the kid seriously is a soup nazi!).  I had my usual tuna sandwich with a side of fruit.

That night I was studied while Cole was at Taekwondo and snacked on a frozen yogurt from Red Mango.  I had a small original tart flavor with pineapple and blueberries.

and then picked up Chipotle for dinner.

Wednesday night Sherilynn, Cole and I went to El Chubasco for dinner…I had shrimp tacos, they did not agree with me, enough said.

Thursday Cole and cousin J had their very first ski lesson.  It was so cute to watch them, their ski’s are super tiny.  It was a warm day and the lack of snow is seriously pathetic, but they didn’t care and had a great time!

Made an open-faced turkey and reduced fat cheese sandwich with avocado for lunch.

Dinner was pork loin with a balsamic cherry sauce, snap peas, and french bread.

My niece Hazel just turned 7 and had a tea party.  She sent my mom home with leftover for me.  I had a cucumber sandwich and one of the cookies.

Tonight we went out to Red Rock Brewery after seeing Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (yawn).  I had my favorite tuna sandwich in a pita with a side salad, about 6 steak fries, and bites of garlic bread and spaghetti (Cole was playing games on my phone so all I got a pic of was my salad).

And then Cole and I split a McDonald’s M&M McFlurry for dessert.

Cole’s Busy Day

Busy day today…mostly for Cole…I was just the chaperone.  I felt very snacky today, so I just tried to have small meals throughout the day.

Did a weights and burpees workout.  3 sets of all exercises: 10 alternating lunges per side w/curls, 15 squats holding 15lb weight, 15 straight leg dead lifts with 15lb weight, curtsy lunges w/lateral raises, static lunges w/overhead press, 10 burpees.

Post-workout: Nature’s Path FlaxPlus cereal  4

Off to get Cole a haircut and then to meet up with his friends at the rec center for some bouncy fun!

Home for lunch…some leftover refrigerator soup  6

We had an hour for quiet time and a quick nap for me, and then we went with Papa to the aquatic center to swim.

Snack on the way: 1/2 Yoplait Smoothie  3

After swimming Cole and I headed down to Taekwondo.

Snack on the way: cheese and apple  3

Dinner w/Heidi for Tuesdays with Heidi (recipe separate post): 8

Ow!

133 Burpees on carpet, gives you rug burn!

Yay for Tuesday…Got up bright and early today cause I had to get started on making homemade rolls for Cole’s school Thanksgiving feast.

I made the mistake again of missing my burpees…since last Thursday!  AHHH…133 make-up burpees.  So while the rolls were rising I figured I should get on the burpees so I didn’t have 155 tomorrow.

Pre-burpee workout:  1 TBSP PB and banana 3pts

Took me about 30 min cause they are seriously exhausting and I wanted to give myself enough of a rest so that my form didn’t suffer.  These were my hands after.

I used my mom’s chinese checker board to keep count.  I did them in 10’s, took a break, 10 more, break, etc.

Post-burpee breakfast: 5pts

Cole and I headed over to his school for the feast.  The kids all had a great time and got to try lots of different things.

I forgot to take a pic of the finished rolls and by the time I had the chance to take a pic, they were almost gone!

Snack: snacked on the mac&cheese (I wish I hadn’t tried it…it was soooo good and sooo not good for you!), 1/2 a roll, and those small pieces of ham  6pts

We came home and did some shoveling.  I put Cole to work!

We grabbed a snack of grapes, cheese, and a WW oatmeal cookie 5pts and then took a nap!

Tuesday is Taekwondo day and I went over to Heidi’s for Tuesdays with Heidi…I’ll make a separate post with our recipe of the night and instructions.

Dinner: Chicken lettuce cups  9pts

Dessert: per Cole’s request Wendy’s frosty  4pts
