We made it to Estes Park – ALIVE!!

Woke up bright and early to get a check on the weather and road closures…..was not too happy to see that our route we wanted to take was still not opened. :(

Went down to the fitness center to get our 51 burpees in before getting on the road. Warmed up on the elliptical for 5 mins before knocking them out.


after a quick shower – headed down to get breakfast. I had oatmeal with brown sugar, a hard boiled egg, and a bite out of this sausage (cause it was nasty). – 6

kids with full bellies watching some TV while waiting to leave. 😉

they played in the snow a few minutes while we got the car ready…….Gabe didn’t wanna leave…..had to assure him we were going to a place where there was WAY more snow!!


New Mexico! Had to drive mostly interstate the whole way in NM cause the backroads were still covered in so much snow and ice.

we had clear sunny skies from Amarillo ALL the way till about Pueblo, CO – then you could see the winter storm we were headed into.

was starting to get stressed and had the munchies!  Should’ve had popcorn as much as I was popping these things in my mouth!

I was starting to get nervous – needed some ice cream I guess to calm my nerves….hahaha – 4


then we hit Denver rush hour traffic. :( which delayed us even longer and put us right in the middle of the storm.


found a Little Caesars to grab dinner.


it went from wet snow………….


to THIS – it REALLY started coming down. the whole interstate slowed to about 30 mph.

then we had to exit off the interstate for the last 35 miles and head up into the mountains to get to Estes Park. The roads had not been plowed yet – so we had to drive about 20mph the whole way up – ended up taking us an hour and a half to go the 35 miles to town!!!!!!   The cRaZiesT white knuckled drive I have ever been on!!

I had a husband with white knuckles on the steering wheel, one kid FREAKING out thinking we were gonna die, one kid was like ‘whatever’, a 3 year old kept asking the one freaking out what are you scared for and telling them to hush cause he can’t hear the movie, and a teenager not helping by egging on the one that was freaking out!!!!  fun times!!!


the temp when we got into town – it had dropped like 10 degrees as we went up the mountain!!!!!


driving through the town – it was so pretty with all the snow and lit up with Christmas lights!  {Ice kept caking to the windshield!}


we made it!  If we had not had to go an extra 2 hours out of the way and gotten stuck in traffic we would have made it up here by 5pm before the storm came in. :/  We definitely kneeled down as a family when we got here and said a prayer of gratitude for making it safely!!


had a little ‘slippery’ incident in the parking lot while Court was trying to park the car! It was crazy how the back end of the car just slid around 180 degrees cause of our Greyhound not being 4 wheel drive and being on the incline and the ice that was under the snow!!!  Thankfully no cars got hit and a neighbor came out jumped in his 4×4 and pulled the truck off that slope so he could get traction again.

Needless to say these Texans won’t be driving around here until the sun comes out and the roads improve!!!!!! 😉
