Summer Fare

I’m a little behind on my WW meeting thoughts and the awesome thoughts and ideas we’ve heard in the last few WW mtgs. I love these meetings and the new ideas and thoughts that I get from attending.

This week’s meeting was:
How to see Summer Fare!
We all have a ton of events, picnics, BBQ’s, etc to attend this summer. Seems like the events with food never ends!!!

We talked about ‘know before you go’.
Mental Rehearsing is a huge key here!!

Our awesome leader Karen had us imagine that we were getting ready for a specific event.
First, What are we going to wear??
Something cute? or our buffet pants?

Picture what kind of food will be served there.
Is it a buffet? Potluck? BBQ?
Look up food values before you go so you have an idea when you are serving up your food how many points that genre of food is.
She had awesome examples:
Hamburger w/bun-11pts VS BBQ chicken-4pts
Planning ahead and knowing things like this will help you to stay on track!

Tips from members:
*Scope out the entire food table before you get in line so you won’t be surprised or tempted by certain foods–that way you can mentally prepare your plate.
*Treat the event/get together as just another meal and not center it around the food. Talk, mingle, or play games so you won’t be tempted to eat more.
*Pile your plate up with fruits and veggies first.
*Try not to ‘drink’ your points.
*Bring a dish to share so that you KNOW the points values of at least one dish.
*Know what your ‘trigger’ foods are and either resolve not to indulge or plan your points for them–have a PLAN!
Motivational Quote:
Summer may present many opportunities to indulge, but it also presents many opportunities to be proud of the choices you are making!!
What are your tips for making your summer events fun and successful without overeating??

About Carman

36 year old military wife of 18 years and stay at home mom to 4 incredible kids (3 girls ages 17, 11, 11 and our son is 6). After my 4th, and final baby, I decided I wanted to be more active, healthier, happier, and to be an example to my kids. I joined Weight Watchers and started using the Points Plus program to learn portion control, moderation, and develop healthier habits. I also used the dietSNAPS app to track my meals and it was such a life changer for me to literally *see* what I was putting in my body! Cyndi, Lexy and I created this blog to be accountability partners and that has been a huge key to this journey! I love to cook and I love converting my favorite recipes into a healthier version for my family to enjoy! I love the after effects of exercising :) I love challenging myself to fitness goals to change things up and in doing so I have run numerous 5K/10K's, several half marathons, one full 26.2 marathon, and a Tough Mudder. I love circuit training, weight training, and running sprints. My goal is to inspire others to take their health seriously, and to show how small changes can lead to big results.
